Hemet, CA
In a valley, with a lake, between LA and San Diego -
7/29/2014I first came to Hemet in 1958, so to me, folks like Mike and Dian are the ones clogging Florida Ave (the main street). Others brought crime and other social problems, primarily from LA. However, Hemet is a great town filled with good people.
It used to be a retirement town (late 60s-late 80s), but the median age is now 38.8, and the median throughout California is only 35.3 years, so any perception of an "old folks place" is outdated by at least 25 or more years. We have 4 high schools in the city limits and others nearby, so all this is normal for any family-oriented city our size (just under 80,000).
Obama's Recession hit the city hard when it came to jobs and development, but that hurt the whole nation. When the national and state economic scenes improve, Hemet will continue on its prosperous path. Hemet is less expensive than most surrounding areas, but the quality of life is very good.
