Very POOR Quality of life -
4/14/2010Merced is very very likely to be one of the VERY MOST UN-DESIRABLE cities in the whole country. If a person has an I.Q. of 50 or greater would know that this city is not a good place to be stuck in. The town is a joke. Grafitti everywhere, the streets are probably the worst in the nation, unemployment is about the worst in the nation, teen pregnancy is the worst in the nation, the city is run by people that get anything they can from you in a fee or tax, the air smells like manure in and around town, gang crime is the worse per capita in THE NATION. Housing has crashed but is sill not bottomed. People that move here and say that it is nice here are morons or just not aware of reality and what a city should be. DESPICABLE is my best thought about Merced!

Merced the Pit of Treachery -
4/13/2010Like so many negative comments about Merced, CA I have to chime in to say I agree totally that Merced is a disgusting and terrible city AND county to have to be stuck in. It is hard to move away for most people unless they have no ties here at all. Unemployment is at 19.56% and the housing market is in shambles and will get worse for some time, probably at least until 2012 and longer and then it likely will go flat for years. Crime is getting worse and worse in many categories and gangs seem to be unstoppable by local authorities. Graffiti is very common and the roads are almost getting to be for 4 wheel drive vehicles only. They are starting to work on the roads some after 15 years of complete neglect. If you don't need to move here take this as a friendly warning and just don't even waste your time thinking about it.

Merced A Disgusting City and County -
4/12/2010Like another reviewer wrote, Merced is a place of very bad unemployment, gangs, grafitti, very very bad roads, everywhere you go our national language(English) is not being spoken, the foreclosure rate as of this review is increasing still after 4 years and now is at 1 in 5 homes,the standard of living is very very bad, just a junky disgusting city and county to live in. One magazine rated Modesto, CA as the worst city in a certain population range to live in, well Merced, CA should be rated 10 levels below Modesto, the anus of California.
