I may be taking a job transfer to the Roseville, but thinking about living in Hudson or roberts, WI since you can get a little newer and more sq.ft for your money. How long will my commute be? I usually leave between 6-630 a.m. Ideally I would like to keep my commute under 45 minutes. Are there any other cities anyone would suggest? I think homes in the TC and surrounding burbs are 25-50k over priced that is why I am looking outside the TC. Can anyone give me the inside scoop on the housoing market? I have heard homes prices have dropped in the past year. is this true?

I grew up near the twin cities, but have not been there for 13 years. Lived in Indiana for 5 now in Houston, Texas for the last 9. A couple things, crime-its everywhere and growing in every metropolitan area. As far as the winters go, you never get used to them, you just learn to deal with it. just like the heat and humidity here. 6 months out of the year, outside is like a sauna. You sweat when you walk outside. In the TC 6 months out of the year its cold, you have windows to scrape, snow to shovel, ice to slip and fall on. But i have heard the winters are milder than 15-20 years ago. Every place has its pros and cons. But if you like the outdoors great city to live in. You get four seasons, activities to consume them all. As far as the job and singles market, cant help you there. Cost of living is higher. I know a $150k here will run 250-300k there. Thats what sucks. In my opinion one of the best places in the midwest to live and raise a family.

Indianapolis, IN

I am thinking about relocating to Indy

A lot of negativity posted here about Indy, just remember there are worse places. Pollution-try living in Houston-petrochemical/Oil capital of the nation, I am at the doctor every three months with some respitory issue, Humidity-try living in Houston May-October step outside sweat your butt off, Crime on the rise look at our stats, they cannont recruit enough officers to patrol the streets. Parks- 2 main parks for 4 million people, public transporation-joke, We dont have the tornadoes ya'll have, but hurricanes arent much fun either. Qualify of life here sucks, cant wait to get back somewhere in the midwest.

I have lived in many differnt parts of the states, here is my take. If you are thinking about moving to Houston, determine what you value. Some pros: good job market, low cost of living, nice winters, great restaraunts, sports town, a lot to do. Some cons: June-Oct HOT and HUMID, air quality is terrible, city growing too fast city cannot keep up with general services, crime is increasing, public transportation is a joke, limited parks, 2 that I consider parks that service 4 million people. Houston is a great place for a young person to start a career and get established, but to raise a family, there are better places.
