Mooresville, NC

Sleepy town, pricey and congested now - 8/31/2013
Mooresville used to be a sleepy mill town, but now with unbridled development, it has traffic woes and the housing prices have skyrocketed. To live on the lake, you used to be able to build a modest home for fishing, but now you must plunk down about $800,000 to enjoy the over developed land. There is plenty of shopping, but little thought went into having an attractive lay out and suburban sprawl is taking over much of the land.
If you have kids, there are some things to do locally, and many people drive on down to Charlotte for cultural events and sporting events.Be advised that there is a nuclear plant nearby, so it that makes you nervous...
The hospital has been recently sold to a chain but has a pretty good record for safety and there are plenty of doctors to go around.
The schools have scored higher than the other town in the county, and there are private schools in the area, also. There is also some nightlife in the area, but little cultural arts.

Sleepy town, fairly low crime rate - 8/31/2013
First the good: The town has a relatively low crime rate. The rough areas are on the South side and there is a movement to clean up the area. From some of the other comments, this must be the part of town that they are talking about as there are some run down areas. The area from the old depot until you head out towards Troutman is fairly rough and to be avoided at night.
Traffic is much worse than it used to be, but still nowhere near as bad as Mooreville/Charlotte area. Homes at this time are from range of $80,000 - $250,000. If you want to renovate an older home there are some great examples of Victorian and Federal - some Spanish - but they sell from around $170,000+
The bad: There is very little to do for teens and older kids. There is the YMCA, and the city now has a very nice Fitness Center for those within city limits. There is a great park near downtown called Lakewood, and a nice walking park also called Mac Anderson Park.
Most shopping is done in the Mooresville area.
If you are like me and would like some activity or interest clubs - there are none.
The community college here is very nice and gets high rankings from the professors at four year colleges and is a beautiful example of what a community college can look like.
There are plenty of churches for almost any denomination, but they are not as friendly towards singles as churches in a larger city.
Very little cultural events, but there are some sporting events. There are several private schools and a Montesori.
If you are married with kids, you will likely enjoy living here. For seniors there are not many resources for help, and singles will likely find it a bit dull.
