12/29/2007I was born and raised in alaska, and these crime and drunk driving allegations are ludicrous; I never once witnessed any serious crime growing up in Anchorage (I grew up in Hillside, however, near Hilltop Ski Resort, which might make a difference--location matters no matter what large city you live in). I now live in Chicago, where drivers constantly run red lights, serial rapists are frequent, and last summer I saw not one, but TWO pedestrians get hit by a car. Yes, pedestrians.
I loved growing up in Anchorage. If you can put up with long winters and massive mosquitos in the summer, it is worth it to stick around and enjoy the beauty that is Alaska.
