Totally agree with your assessment of Lancaster County. My husband and I moved back to PA to take care of ailing parents. We joined a revitalization group soon after we moved here in order to try to make friends. We learned early on that if you weren't raised here, you might as well be from Mars. We've lived here for 10 years and have no friends. I can see a neighbor at the grocery store and they will say 'Hello' and then pretend you're not there. Eyes down...no conversation. I now have a game I play where I make an effort to speak more than Hello. It's rather amusing to watch how uncomfortable they get. My husband and I lived in a metro area for 30 years before we moved here. When my mother passes, we are out of here!
