I'm staying put -
1/12/2012I see a lot of people complain about Shelton.OK,it's their right.Is it perfect? Of course not.But I've seen a lot of people leave and come back in a year or two.What is it they say about the grass on the other side of the fence? If you look at the stats you will see it's expensive here. Especially housing. But those prices have been falling,like every where. But they are still high relative to the most of the country.Utilities(electricity rates) have fallen about 20% in the past two years so that's good.Food is pretty much the same nationally.The biggest factor in Connecticut,and most of the northeast is taxes and that is only because elected officials betrayed the people and bought there way back into office with generous(outrageous) salaries and benefits for public employees.Shelton remains the lowest taxed city in the county thanks to an effective town movement and mayor.Crime rates are very low because we are fortunate to have well educated police and supervision is vigilant in most towns.Some people complain about the weather but I am reminded of a comment about New England by Mark Twain who lived most of his latter life in Connecticut. Twin said"If you don't like the weather in New England wait five minutes. It will Change," 'nuff said. Last year at this date I had about four feet of snow on the sides of my driveway and most was still there at the end of April.It never got out of the teens for three months. This year I have yet to see a snow flake by the middle of January and this week is a repeat of
last.Sunny and mid 40's.And by the way,our help care system is some of the best in the country.

What's crime like in the rest of Ohio ? -
4/18/2007I'm very confused here. I see a number of comments that claim that Akron has a low crime rate,yet the stats on City View indicate that Akron has a horrific crime rate. I'm on the east coast and these crime rates are far higher than any we have and I thought NYC was suppose to be high.Startling!

money money money makes the world go around, world -
3/3/2007For those of you who may remember "The Rothschilds", money indeed does make the world go around. Without it you can be in Palm Springs or Acapulco or Monte Carlo, you might as well be in Boise. And that my friends is why Maket Watch lists Pittsburgh as # 7 on the list of best places to retire and Sperlings rates it as one of the best places in the US to live. Sure it has three major league teams,yes it has a constant shuffle of new NYC entertainment,and The Pittsburgh Symphony is one of the country's finest,performing in Heinz Hall,a world renown concert hall. Plus a selection of restaurants to satisfy every taste. I haven't even mentioned the museums,librarys and parks that abound. But....but,because Pittsburgh cost of living is soooo low,incredibly low,people have money to enjoy the many things The Burgh has to offer. THAT is what you can't find in other cities. But it sure is cloudy !
