Pass on Clovis if you have the choice!! - 4/23/2010
People say "Clovis isn't so bad." Well, let me be the honest voice here. I am not pleased with Clovis. We expected to like it - we had heard there was a moderate cost of living and that it was a great place for families. What we have found is quite the opposite. First, we paid $167,000 for a 1300 sq foot house - hardly what I would call "moderate" and especially considering how much more (better, newer, etc.) house we can get for that price in Lubbock, or San Antonio, or just about anywhere with more to offer than Clovis. Second, as for being great for families - we haven't seen that! We have a 6 year old and there are not many programs offered for his age. Where we used to live he had tons of options for sports and other events - here, it's limited at best.

Also, the "Clovites" (those who are "from" here) are LESS than welcoming to outsiders - good luck blending in at a church or any other group. If you're not from here, go to a big church where there are lots of military families - at least then SOMEONE will likely talk to you.

Oh... and my favorite -- there are SIX Red Cross Volunteers here and they are all from the base. None of the locals. I guess the locals are more self centered and don't really care. People groups like the Committee of Fifty have the power to pull together to save a base (that the townsfolks clearly don't want as evidenced by their general attitudes toward military people, their complete lack of customer service, and their fighting tooth and nail to keep any GOOD businesses that people want from coming into town), but they don't have the power to get their own community to step up to serve their OWN COMMUNITY?

I have been here almost 2 years and am definitely "OVER" Clovis and done giving it a chance -- now I am just marking the days of my sentence on the wall until one day I can hopefully get the heck out of here!!!!
