This town is the poster child for city corruption. Rizzo/Spaccia/Adams and their ill-gotten gains, incompetent yet corrupt city council, unelected officials making $400K/year, city illegally imposing taxes, police racially profiling and impounding cars without real cause, have basically bankrupted the city. Good luck cleaning up this mess.

Los Angeles NEEDS a Renaissance...or a 7.0 earthqu
- 9/27/2006
Nice to know I'm not alone to speak out about Los Angeles. I was the first to post about it here. :)

Where to begin.... Los Angeles is a place that attracts folks from all walks of life. And for a long time that only made this city the most unique in the country.

But now Los Angeles is a city with no identity, no real direction, lousy public schools, and way too expensive for even upper middle-class people to live in. It is the NYC of the West Coast, unfortunately. Which is by no means a "City of Angels".

If you want to be constantly struggling to make ends meet, driving all over the city which has the worst traffic in the country, have no chance of ever buying a home, pay heavy taxes and get nothing in return (California has TENS of BILLION$ in IOU's to pay back), have your kids go to horrible schools (research the schools VERY carefully), and live where English is becoming a second language..... WELCOME TO LOS ANGELES.

I like the weather here, but the cons of living here far outweigh the benefits. Unless you are very rich or if you are trying to break into the entertainment or media industry. For the 2nd largest city in the country, we do not embrace the technology sector (I work in this sector) as much as cities like Austin, the Bay Area, or even Seattle. There's opportunities to import and export goods though. But unless you hire illegals (oops, undocumented folks), you'll struggle to compete.

As for the sane and smart folks, there is nothing (nothing real anyways) in Los Angeles to see. Move along, move along.

Eager to Leave Los Angeles for Good!!!!
- 7/26/2006
It is sad what has become of California. This used to be the state the was ahead of everyone else in terms of creativity, culture, and the place to be. In the past 15 years, this state has become a middle of the pack state while money/power/greed has torn this state apart. And that is especially true in Los Angeles.

I'm in my late 20's and I am actually glad I do not own a car and that I can ride a bicycle to work 20 minutes each way. Otherwise, I'd be yet another road-raged commuter driving through gridlock while getting raped at the pump. The infrastructure is decrepit, the job market is not that great unless you want $7 fast food jobs, the public schools in LAUSD are mostly lousy. There is practically no such thing as middle-class here (just the rich and the working poor). I make a decent amount (by non-California standards) yet I live near borderline gangsta/hip-hop wannabes and illegals scavenging for recycled cans.

This state cannot balance a budget and when they take money from the counties, Los Angeles hikes local taxes to make up for it. I have had enough with this city, county, and state. If this is what happens when liberals hold on to power for too long, then I may be better off moving to a RED state (i.e. Texas). Just getting my finances together so I can live the American dream, not the left-coast nightmare called Taxifornia dreaming.

For April

April,

The South Bay area (Torrance/Redondo Beach) is is a good area. West LA has more of an active night life (Westwood/West Hollywood/Santa Monica). Palms is okay if you like hanging around college students. Just avoid downtown at night. Avoid East LA and South Central if you can.

Housing Market Sux!
- 10/4/2005
At this rate, Los Angeles and all of California is going to become the modern 3rd world state.

Housing is too damn expensive here! People buy luxury items they can't afford. The job market is too dependent on the housing industry. Incomes are not going up. I predict in a few years there will be MANY foreclosures and bankruptcies.

And if the schools weren't poorly performing already, they will suffer even worse soon. Also this state borrows money every year because the politicians (tax-happy dems and the minority repub budget terrorists) won't make the tough, but necessary decisions.

But other than that, Los Angeles is a nice place....to visit. Just feedback from a native Californian waiting to move out....for GOOD!
