Atwater, CA

I think Atwater is the best city in the valley - 5/8/2012
It went from hellhole to paradise in less than five years. Now, there are more places to shop and eat. What was a boring, open field is now a huge shopping center off of 99 with Super Walmart, Super Target (right next to each other: weird, but convenient), Marshall's, Dress Barn, and a lot more. They're very affordable.

There isn't much to do for fun, but for a city of only 30,000, you can't expect too much. What Atwater does have, though, is Castle Lanes (bowling alley) on the old Castle AFB right next to the entrance of Castle Airport. There are some bars: Almond Tree (south Atwater) and Out Of Bounds Sports Bar (north Atwater) to name a few.

I currently live in Merdead (Merced - proper name), and I was fined by public works for having trash in the blue can. 1) I did no such thing. 2) How would they know who did it in the first place? I'll bet anything that I'm not the only victim of such ridiculousness. Anyway, this won't happen to you in Atwater because there is no blue can. Everything just goes in one, and they pay people to separate it themselves, which every city should do. If they did, unemployment wouldn't be a problem anywhere. Nonetheless, it's better here.

I would love to move here from Merdead. If you plan on living there for any reason, don't. Move here instead. Besides, you're still close to Merdead if you have to go there for any reason.

All in all, Atwater is by far the best city around here.

Merced, CA

The worst city in the USA - 5/8/2012
Merdead, CA is the worst city in the USA. Let me get into detail:

- The worst unemployment rate in the nation

- The highest illegal immigration rate in the nation

- The highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation

- Even with the two colleges, the "dumbest" city in the nation

- Nothing to do for fun and nowhere to shop

- Litter on every street

- Murders every day

- Bad traffic

- More expensive than SF and LA combined

- More McDonald's fast food restaurants than you can shake a stick at

- Public works fines you for garbage in the recyclable (blue) can while they have no way of knowing you did it. This has already happened to me.

That alone should say enough. I want to move to Atwater (two bowling alleys, better shopping, crime rate is a lot lower, more job opportunities, better restaurants, and everything else beyond imaginable), but I can't because this dump ran me bankrupt. I'm ashamed to even say I've set foot in this trash heap.

Merced, CA

Yeah, I said it. I love Merced. - 3/14/2012
Merced is located in central California in the San Joaquin Valley, about 280 miles north of L.A. and 130 miles south of San Francisco. Sure, you could live the good life in those two places, but if what you want is a smaller, less-populated city, Merced is the place for you.

It's small-town living in a medium-sized city. If you're small-town folk, in central Merced, you have some small, family-owned drugstores, just like in a small town (like Snelling). If you're big-city folk, the north side of town has everything you need, but don't even bother going in the mall (boring, outdated, etc.). For a shopping mall, I'd go to Modesto (about 45 minutes north of Merced). Downtown Merced is very beautiful, and it features a newly-renovated theater, two pool halls, an ice cream shop, and more.

Don't let anybody tell you that Merced is boring. Downtown Merced has two pool halls, two theaters only one block away from each other, a nickel arcade on the north side of town, and Applegate Zoo on R Street. If you're looking to knock down some pins, in nearby Atwater (7 miles north of Merced), you have Castle Lanes, the closest bowling alley to Merced.

For restaurants, you have Pizza Villa (the best pizza in Merced, possibly the world), Toni's Courtyard Cafe, IHOP, Denny's, and more. They're all pretty good places.

Besides, Merced has an In-N-Out Burger. Any city that has an In-N-Out is worth living in.

The crime rate is high, but the police always do a good job of stopping it right after it happens. Either way, if you want to move here, I'd advise investing in a police scanner (even one of the cheap ones will pick up what Merced police are saying). You'll know about the crime around you, and how to stay away from it.

The only problem that I see with Merced is the south side of town (anywhere south of 13th Street). Out of the whole city, that's the worst area to live in (crime). I currently live in the northwest part of town, and it has crime, too, but not nearly as much as the area mentioned above.
