Rio Rancho, NM

Love it - 1/22/2020
Affordable housing, low crime (compared to Albuquerque), awesome weather with all 4 seasons, beautiful environment and some pretty awesome people. I love Rio Rancho, growing up in Albuquerque I always just thought of Rio as a boring little bedroom community but it’s honestly the place to be. It’s growing a lot, so there’s lot of new houses being put up, streets being widened, businesses and offices being built, etc. Lots of work here, blue collar or white collar.
The weather is pretty awesome, the summers are kinda hot but no where as bad as Vegas or Phoenix and it’s not humid like Texas or anywhere else out east. The fall is beautiful, winter is short and not too bad, spring is beautiful.
The people are honestly pretty great too, it’s a very politically diverse city; meaning that there’s lots of republicans, democrats and everything in between or outside. No matter what you believe, you’ll fit right in. If you’re thinking of moving to NM, I’d recommend Rio Rancho for sure. You’ll be in a safe area, large houses, nice weather, close proximity to the mountains, river, city, etc. If you’re coming from California, I’d totally recommend coming here instead of Texas or Arizona, please. Leave them alone

Santa Fe, NM

Not worth the hefty price tag - 12/18/2018
Santa Fe is beautiful and has nice weather, but it's got a big city cost of living while not having much to offer in exchange. It's small, doesn't really have anything to do and gets boring, but charges like it's a metropolis. I mean there's Meow Wolf, the surrounding pueblos, the Plaza, and that's about it. Each of those get pretty old after two or three visits.

I will say though, the animal shelter is very nice. They take great care of the dogs, let you pet them and interect with them; so if you're looking for a dog that's already social and well taken care of, they've got you covered!

Albuquerque, NM

Very beautiful land, but not much more - 3/27/2017
Lived in Albuquerque my whole life, it's very beautiful. Mesas to the west, Rio Grande/Bosque in the middle (super beautiful in the fall when the trees turn yellow and orange!) and then the mountains to the east. Our weather is just about perfect. Too hot for my taste, but being sandwiched between Texas and Arizona, summers of only mid-90s isn't too bad in comparison! Very beautiful spring/fall, and the winter is still cold with some snow. All four seasons are very fair, though bipolar. The city is very rich in culture and food as well, especially for fans of Native American culture. One of my favorite things about ABQ is how easy it is to navigate, all the roads are a big grid so all roads lead to each other eventually.

As for crime, well, it's there. I grew up in the northwest suburbs and still had vehicle break ins every month, even got shot at once for catching the guy. Avoid the south part of the town. Southeast and southwest are both very rough and full of crime, gangs, and poverty. Albuquerque is pretty affordable too, not bad.

To summarize, Albuquerque has a lot of fun things to do, lots of outdoor activies (hiking, skiing, the Indian School ditch is famous for skating), and has good weather (if you like heat), but it has a lot of crime and homelessness.
