Happy Valley, OR

Nice Place To Live - 9/30/2011
Happy Valley, OR is a great place to live. Just east of Portland its on a hill where you could see the beautiful city(Portland) in the valley. All the beautiful lights in the downtown area, the birds and bat singing, the insects dancing, and me enjoying all this from my balcony. I just moved to my new apartment 2 monthIs ago and love the few from my apartment looking down at night to the city of Portland. Its seems so peaceful and relax. I have great neighbors and starting to make new friends. I hope to live here through the winter and if I can survive the rain, Happy Valley will be my new home for a couple of years.

Fresno, CA

Fresno, CA Not So Great - 9/29/2011
I lived in Fresno, CA 26 years of my life and have finally decided to move out of this not so good place. I have experience lots of change in the last 10 years here in Fresno. The climate is great during autume(2 months/12 months). Winter is cold, Spring full of allergies, Summer feels like a microwave. Although Fresno, CA is only 2.5 hours to the nice California beaches and 3 hours to the great Sierra Summit. Fresno, Ca is an empty city full people who seems like the are trap in a quicksand where the longer they stay the harder it is to get out. Lots of people in Fresno are farmers and people who have low education and low income. Don't get me wrong Fresno have doctors, lawyers, Accountants, biochemist, engineer, Farmers, and business men that makes millions a year. I have always wanted to leave Fresno when I was going to college now that I have been out I am taking a trip out of fresno and hoping not to look back. I love my cars and everytime I wash my cars and leave it on the driveway the next morning there is a layer of light dust/durt that has already settle on my car that was only washed 18 hours ago. I think to myself if I am breathing in all these dust for the last 26 years of my life it must not be good. My allergies are also bad in Fresno. The crime(murder, homoside, rape, auto theft, drugs, home invasion, etc.) in Fresno, CA is one of the worst. There are great places to live such as the north side of town(where most of the lawyers, doctors, accountants, business men, etc. live) by Woodward Park. All I have to say is that if you love Fresno, Ca thats great if you plan to move here you have to enjoy some of the bad stuff I said about it. Remember I live here all my life and Im moving and again hoping to never come back. But the choice is in the beholders eye. I see that I have nothing there. But Fresno, CA might be a Gem for you. Good Luck.

Portland, OR

Great Place to Live - 9/29/2011
I just moved to Portland, OR from Fresno, CA in March of 2011. In the first month(March) it rained and rained as if it doesn't ever stoped; I saw maybe 48 hrs of sunlight the whole month. It rain a total of about 23 days straight the other were grey sky. It was a huge change in climate for me. I lived 26 years of my life in Fresno, CA get we get about 35-45 days of rain and couldy days on an average year. (Portland, OR)April-May was a little nicer and wasn't as cold as March but there were still lots of rain/cloudy days and few sunny days. June came alone and it rained about 10 days, 8 days of cloudy and the other were sunny. July was the turning point for me. It rain about 4 days and 4-6 days of cloudiness but the rest of the other days were just beautiful. The summer here are unbeatable. I will trade California summer for the summer in Oregon any day(you have to see Oregon in the summer its the most beautiful place). It has remain beautiful till today(09/28/11). There wasn't a day over 95 degree. I will fall between 70-92 degree. Ok, enough about the weather. The lifestyle of both of these cities(Fresno, CA and Portland, OR) are totally different. Portland is claimer, relax, greener, cleaner, and overall have some realy nice people. Portland, OR air/water quility is way better, you could taste and smell the difference. Portland, OR property tax is a little high. On a average house you would be paying about $5000.00-$6000.00 in taxes a year. One more thing housing pirce here is also high(225,000-300,000 for a average home in a good neighborhood). I plan to live here through the winter to see how it really is, I heard it is going to rain for 3 months non-stop. Its not much of a party city but I think it is a great place to start/raise a family; low crime in most area of Portland, average school system, and great outdoor activities to keep the kids entertain. lots of people running and biking outdoors, lots of big company in the Southwest of Portland(job opportunities). Overall its a great place to live. If I can live through the winter months I am going to make this place my new home. There will only be a few things I miss about Californnia which are the clubs, beaches, and outdoor autoshow(year round). That is why there are vacations.
