3/13/2012Definitely a tourist area. Not a good place to raise kids! Schools are terrible. Decent amount of crime, nothing too extreme. High accident rate. Dear god do NOT drive on 501. Tons of churches, hotels, beach shops, elder-friendly communities, a few parks and all types of cultural restaurants. (Nothing spectacular.) College/Vacation-friendly area.
In other words, it's more fun to visit than it is to live.
A bit expensive to live. Not recommended for college students or beginning parents. Tons of traffic. Slow... slow traffic. Mall takes about 20 mins (for the crappy mall that's losing business) or about 45 mins (for Coastal Grand. It's decent overall) Nothing big supported such as Apple stores and some high-end businesses.
People that live here are from all different areas and are usually not very friendly. It's common for neighbors to own a beach house or vacation house instead of calling it home.
