That's very unfortunate Jalaal that you were treated that way. There are a lot of racist hicks in Sheridan that have telephone poles for family trees.

Good Town For Families and Retirees

I've lived in Sundance for 2 years and have to say it's a good town for families and retirees but that's about it. Definitely not a place for single people like me. The town has very little to offer as far as restaurants, shops and bars. The Longhorn Steakhouse is pretty much the only place you can get a great dinner. However the town is located in a beautiful area of the Wyoming Black Hills and has endless outdoor opportunities. There's also a good golf course and city park here. It's a very safe town and violent crime is virtually non existent. The town definitely has a lot of potential but it isn't being exploited. I don't plan to stay here too much longer.

Wonderful Place!

I have lived in Sheridan several times and I have to say this is one of the best towns in America! First of all, the town is located at the base of the Bighorn Mountains and surrounded by rolling hills, some trees and meadows. The downtown is very clean and well maintained. There are many wonderful parks and trails that accommodate all sorts of recreational activities. There's a Walmart, Kmart, Albertsons, Walgreens, Home Depot and numerous small shops, restaurants and bars. There's a rich and vibrant history in this town and is a sportsman's paradise. A great place to settle down and raise a family, or retire. For singles in their teens and 20's, there's not much of a dating scene but the town still can be quite fun. There's a very nice community college nearby that offers an array of 2 year degrees. Overall Sheridan is a gem!

Hit or Miss

I am a native Wyomingite and love my home state! It is a state of vast openness, but also vast contrasts. Some of the most beautiful places in America can be found here, as well as some of the most empty and dull (depends on one's perception). Basically it comes down to this. If you're an outdoorsy person who loves the peace and solitude of mother nature, and strongly dislikes cities and crowds, then Wyoming is the place for you! If you have to be around lots of people and have easy access to services, you won't last a year! Winters are quite long and harsh in this state so one has to really like cold weather. Wyoming is a great place to raise a family and/or retire. Not a good place for singles unless you're here to make big bucks in the energy industry. The state is ultra conservative and there is a sort of oligarchy present. The cowboy culture is very strong here and in general, they tend to be somewhat unwelcoming to outsiders and people who don't conform in their ways. Minorities do well in cities like Cheyenne and Casper but in small towns there are some racial tensions that I have observed. But overall it's a pretty nice state.

Buffalo, WY
A Great Place To Raise a Family or Retire!

I grew up in Buffalo and I do have to say it's one of the best small towns in America! At the base of the beautiful Bighorn Mountains, it offers great access to mother nature. The town itself is quaint and quiet. Perfect for raising a family or retiring. The pro's of this town are: Quiet, low crime, beautiful parks and trails, lots of recreational activities (Huge outdoor pool and one of the top 100 golf courses in the US is located here), good public school system. There are some cons, like any place. They are: fairly isolated so if you're a shopper, you have to drive about 35 miles to Sheridan. Medical services are somewhat limited. There is a hospital but if you require major surgery you'd have to travel a ways. Not the best place for teens and singles. In my experience most teens leave the town after high school and some come back when they reach their 30's. Single people, especially males, have a pretty hard time finding dates. Overall it's a great town if you're looking to settle down.
