Vallejo, CA

Vallejo native here - 9/6/2007
I was born and raised in Vallejo and I'm in my mid-twenties also and I'm now in New Mexico for college. Yes the kids here are more ghetto than other places but on the flipside it makes everybody street smart. You HAVE to leave Vallejo after you graduate high school or you're going to get stuck here like a lot of people I've seen and end up doing nothing with their lives. I wouldn't mind moving back here when I have a family because the diversity here is unmatched. I grew up with friends from all races. That is why I'm not prejudice and can hang with any group. I want my kids to be exposed to that diversity also. Look up any city in America and compare the demographic numbers to Vallejo and you will see what I mean.

Invest in Albuquerque?
- 5/24/2006
My friend said he saw on the news that Albuquerque is the number one fastest growing city in america according to Forbes. It would make sense. Ever since I moved here in 2003 they haven't stopped expanding the westside and keep building new houses. A new two-story house only runs for about $150,000. I think I'm going to tell my mom to invest in real estate here.

Albuqerque is not for young people
- 3/26/2006
I moved here in 2003 when the military stationed me here. I left the service and stayed here to go to college full-time. I'm from the bay area in California and one thing I noticed here is the separation of social classes. People don't associate with different social classes here. If they think you are in a lower social class they will snob you. There are a lot of stuck up people here. This is my biggest pet peeve here. Coming from the very high cost of living in the bay area I guess the social classes are a little more blurred there because it seems everyone is just trying to make it financially there. It seemed nobody cared about your social class in the bay area. If your cool your cool. Here you can definitely see the line that seperates the rich and poor.

As far as I crime I think it is exaggerated. I watch the news and all the crimes are happening within blocks from my apartment lol. I live in the war zone and never had a problem. Then again I don't go walking the streets so maybe that is why lol. I only had one problem and it was with these punks when I went out to eat out with my friends and some girls at 2 a.m. I think the only reason they messed with us is because my friends and I were asian and the girls with us looked latina. I don't know if the whole interacial thing is a sensitive issue here.

The biggest problem I have here is the beggars. I don't know how many times I've been approached for money walking out of a store. You know damn well they are drug addicts. They always come up with some unpractical story for their dire need of money. I no longer give money.

For women this can be a scary place I guess. Seems like every woman I met here has been stalked by a stranger or someone they know. I thought they were being paranoid but every woman seems to have similar stories about being stlaked. I find it funny because it seems so exagerated.

Last but not least as a young college student in his 20s I urge young adults not to come here. This is not a college town. Every time I go to the mall I feel old. Nothing but high schoolers everywhere you go in this town. The only place you can meet someone in their twenties is on campus or downtown in the bars and clubs. My sociology teacher explained the demographics of Albuquerque and it answered my questions of "where are the young adults at?" He said Albuquerque is mostly teenagers and people in their 30s and 40s. After people graduate high shcool here, they either go to college out of stat
