Cleveland, OH

New Yorkers, Cleveland, etc.
- 4/23/2007
Check these message boards for pretty much each major city and you will find that pessimists are attracted to this website. It's difficult to find positive comments for any city. It's almost as if they seek out this site to bash [insert the name of any city].

Cleveland is a great city with a lot to offer, and anyone with an open mind and an appreciation for history can see that. Northeast Ohio's current (and ongoing) economic situation contributes to a negative impression for those who are ignorant of the region, but I suppose that's why state/local governments should take it upon themselves to better advertize all the Buckeye State has to offer. Being modest people, we tend to sell ourselves short in that area.

Don't be too harsh on the New Yorkers... in fairness, they bash every other city on this website just as much as they do Cleveland. I live in Orlando (although I'm from Ohio) and they complain just as much about "lack of culture" and "lack of [insert something ridiculous]" in Florida also. What they really mean to say is "there is no place like home, I'm a miserable person, I miss being in NYC, and I thought every place on earth was a carbon-copy of my neighborhood in the Bronx". Some people have little or no tolerance for any place that isn't "home". In their case, "home" is NYC. There happens to be a lot of them, so they are fairly vocal, and we hear from them frequently on the subject. Being unaccustomed to putting down roots and embracing the spirit of community, these people will leave Cleveland and move on to some other city, where they will be equally miserable until they eventual give up and move home.

Norwalk, OH

Much to Offer
- 10/2/2006
Norwalk is a great community with much to offer residents in recreation and quality of living. The city is easily accessible to theme parks, shopping, colleges and universities, the Lake Erie islands, and historical sites. The "Maple City" is located directly between Cleveland and Toledo - either are only an hour's drive. Not much further to Detroit, Columbus, or Pittsburgh. Norwalk is truly at the heart of it all!

DeLand, FL

A city in transition
- 10/2/2006
DeLand is a beautiful city with much to offer residents. Development is knocking at the door though, and most people already recognize it as the northern most suburb of Orlando. After the light rail system is complete in 5-10 years, DeLand's fate will be forever tied to Orlando. There is a lot of small town charm remaining in DeLand - perhaps the last in the region with the exception of some areas in Lake County. Hopefully, city and county officials will preserve this precious resource and not sqwander it for political gain as has happened throughout much of Central Florida.

Brooksville, FL

Nice Town, but Low Wages
- 10/2/2006
Brooksville is a quaint, quiet, beautiful community convenient to beaches, shopping, and all the "main attractions" in the Bay area. Small towns like this are disappearing all across Florida in the name "progress" (an illusion if you ask me). Thus far, the city is doing a great job of preserving historical sites and maintaining small town charm despite the reality that development is knocking at the door. Hopefully, Brooksville will maintain it's strong sense of community and the southern hospitality that characterizes it. Otherwise, it will find itself just another "neighborhood" of sprawling Spring Hill, complete with tire saloons, strip malls, and the crime, pollution, and congestion that accompany "progress".
