7/24/2012otherI am supposed to go to this school in eighth grade and i have been reading peoples reviews and im not sure what to think about this school. Can any one help me?
3/2/2012parentThis school disgusts me! There are some great teachers, great couselor, & a great band program, but that's about it. We have always sent our children to the schools on base & unfortunately this year we did not have that option. We had no idea what we were getting into. My son makes excellent grades, but we are pulling him out of this school at putting him in the Fightline Academy on base ASAP! There are way too many fights, bullying, & disrespectful students in this school. There is not enough discipline for the students that cause the problems. The philosophy at Northwood is to punish everyone, even the innocent. I a child gets jumped, both get punished no matter what. Even if you don't fight back, you get the same punishment. I can't wait to no longer be associated for this poor excuse for a school. Good riddance!!
7/16/2010teacherNorthwood has been through several administrative changes in the last three years which causes problems for stakeholders. The principal that was there the 2009-2010 school year will remain. She has high expectations of students, teachers, staff, parents and the administration. She works hard to maintain discipline in the building. The student that stated there are at least two fights a week is incorrect. We had two major fights all year, the others were spats between students because they invade other students' space and privacy. I have been in numerous schools in the last twenty years and Northwood is a great place to be. Anyone that is interested in visiting the school may do so by contacting the administration and they will set up an appointment. Don't take the word of others, come in and see for yourself, that Northwood is clean, orderly and learning is happening every day.
5/3/2010studentI am currently a student at NWMS and I have to admit, it's not terrific, but it's not as horrible as some students say. I am a seventh grader and I have a lot of friends at that school. One problem is drama. There is WAY too much drama at Northwood. Almost every week there is AT LEAST two fights. I say the problem is discipline. Yes, teachers are there for our guidance. Being in all advanced classes, I say they helped me a lot. In the beginning of the year I was in regular classes. But, thanks to a very nice teacher, I am now in advanced. So teachers do NOT neglect us. I am one of few voices that were heard at that school. Students just have to speak up to be helped. So, in conclusion, Northwood is not a bad school. But it's not the best. -Anonymous
4/13/2010studentHey I go to this school and it is NOT good at all. The food is unhealthy, teachers throw chairs at students, and tons of fights in the halls.
6/28/2009studenti used to b a stundent there great school if i had to chose to send my child to a mangent school or there i would chose northwood
5/23/2009studentI think, contrary to popular belifs, that NWMS is a great school. Sure, the food is not that great, and it gets really crowded in the halls, and we do have a bit of a dicsipline problem, but i must say that every teacher in that school building works their hardest to make sure every student gets a general understanding of the criteria in the books. All of the staff, including the new princpal, Veronica Perkins, is working hard to make Northwood a better school. Also, as an 8th grader this year, i would like to apoligize for all the 'bullying' you may have recived. We all have been through it, lets just say its a tradition, a hazing, if you may. Well, thets about all i have to say...Go Knights!!
4/11/2009studentUm, I have to say I dread getting up knowing I have to got to NORTHWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL every morning. Well to start this review off, let's talk about the discipline. I have walked around this school all year and cowered from the eighth grader and even the seventh graders. Especially outside there is barely anyway to protect the younger generation. And every child here at NORTHWOOD seems to have permission to cuss/curse/swear all the time and no adult helps clean there foul mouths! Then there is the matter of feelings. My feelings have been hurt ALL YEAR! I used to LOVE one of these really cool electives (S.A.D) and people mess with me so much I can't even enjoy the class anymore. And you can't even tell on bullies because they will spread rumors and call you a snitch. The food is good. Though a little more discipline is needed!
2/28/2009teacherNorthwood's facilities may be somewhat out of date, but you must realize that the majority of the teachers there are dedicated, hard-working, intelligent people who have a vision of success for students, and they are trying to make the best of the limited resources available. Also, a school's success and atmosphere depend on the entire community--teachers, students, parents, community leaders. Northwood has seen improvements during the current school year, and we strive to continually improve and grow and make our school a better place.
9/11/2008studentI think the school is horrible too. We now only have four minutes to get to classes and the first time you get caught with a cellphone or electronic device they suspend you for 2 days. We only have 30 minutes to eat lunch. They fill the classes up and then switch everyone out. This year I got my schedule change 3 weeks into school. We still don't have enough books for every student where as Cabot has the same book for Home and school let's see if you have 6 books at school altogether that'd be 12 books. We now have to pay 2.25 for a horrible unhealthy and unsanitary lunch and as I said before we only have 30 minutes to eat it. Yeah you guys got it the school is horrible. ^-^
4/25/2008parentThis faculty is absolutely horrible! I totally agree with the previous parent who stated it is the worst in the state. Being military my children have attended schools in Colorado, Florida, and Virginia but I have never saw any administration facilitated as such. The principal is never available and the vice principal does not have a 'CLUE'! The building should have been condemed 20 years ago. Jacksonville keep the press on - I can't speak for the rest of the school district but Pulaski County Special School District, has definitely failed: 1. The student body 2. The community 3. The taxpayer So much for 'No Child Left Behind'
4/19/2008parentThis school is very un-sanitary for the students. It is one of the worst schools in the state of Arkansas. There are many terrible students. The teachers are slow and rude. I went to my childs confrence and the teacher couldnt even keep up with my childs work and responsibilitys. The principal is never there most of the time. The students never obey and are very violent. My child has been bullied and hates your school! This school needs some dicipline!!!!!!thank you
3/26/2008parentThe principal is there only part time. She wasn't even there the entire first day of school last year! The kids only have 5 minutes to get to each class, can not carry their backpacks to class, and some classes do not even have books! If my child wasn't a good student, he would have a difficult time. The only good thing is a couple of the teachers use edline which is very helpful. The counselor I have spoke with is great and they have a great band program! As with every school there has been some instances of drug use and other related problems at the school but not too bad. I don't believe there is an officer at the school which may or may not help the situation. The kids are not allowed any phone calls or messages which is not good. Overall the school needs lots of improvements!
10/29/2006parentNorthwood seems to be coming along well. The thing that concerns me is not having an officer on campus. This is the age where kids tend to get out of control. There is a lack of staff sufficient to accommodate the number of students at this school. I think that everyone involved needs to take a step back and review what works and what doesn't and then make appropriate changes necessary to make it all work.
