4/28/2010parentI have a son with mild autism who didn't fair well at La Tercera. In fact La Tercera faculty claimed they never had a student like my son. Some teachers were better than others, but the overall conditions for handling special needs kids was not up to par. This school needs to work on the needs of their students give up the notion of placing star testing as a priority.
3/14/2010parentMy son has autism and has been attending La Tercera School since Kindergarden. All of the teachers he has been with so far have been deeply engaged, aware and going the extra mile to help him with his needs and at the same time allow him to be part of his class and adjusting to a regular environment. I cannot stress enough how good of a school La Tercera is - not only with academics, but providing growth to kids as part of a community as well as teaching them that they are not better than anyone regardless of their color, religion or race. I recommend it highly !
3/12/2010parentLa Tercera is a great school. There is a diverse community of involved parents. Male teachers mixed throughout the grades. Super devoted teachers. Strong academics but not pushing kids to extremes. Friendly campus and a fun place to learn.
8/21/2009parentI love Mrs. Westfall, the kindergarten teacher. She is caring and takes such great care of the children in her care. If you are able to help in the classroom, you will see how she always knows the right thing to say to the kids. They grow an inch when she talks to them because she makes them feel so good about themselves. She truly enjoys the kids. The Principal for this school is very involved and doesn't talk down to the kids or teachers. He seems intelligent and he seems to really care about the safety of the kids and is interested in teaching the kids how to take care of their bodies, brains, and friends. They are exceptional. The reason that I didn't give the school a 5-star is because the office secretaries are less then helpful, so don't let them discourage you from signing up your children.
1/2/2009parentWe love this school. We moved from San Francisco, and La Tercera was a perfect choice for my 1st grader, as the school is very welcoming. She loves her teacher, and is excited to learn. Parents are very involved.
5/22/2006parentWe had a fabulous lower grade experience but the upper grades have been lacking in academics. The school district changed the math program and the kids are not responding well to it.
1/12/2006parentMy 5th grade daughter has been going to La Tercera since kindergarden. We chose this school for it's parklike setting and because at the time it was debuting a full day kindergarden program, the first in the district. We are amazed at her progress each year. Every gradelevel has outstanding teachers...we have never had a 'bad year.' Our PTA is extremely active and supportive, our Principal is proactive, knowledgable and a good leader. He arrived at our school almost 2 yrs ago, and has taken our test scores up. This is a great testament to the commitment our admin. and teachers give to our children. We accomplish alot on very little budget, fundraising is a constant and welcome part of enriching our children. The quality of friendships are top notch, this community of parents and children and teacher's alike are bonded together for common goals. We love La Tercera.
6/26/2005parentLa Tercera has a strong academic program with dedicated teachers. Band is available after school. Music and art enrichment are provided. We are currently working on raising funds to have a PE teacher. Many great parents at this school.
4/20/2005parentGreat Parent Base and AWesome Teachers, All day Kindergarten with a good percentage of readers by the end. New equipment and very active PTA.
7/28/2004parentThis school is wonderfully nurturing. The teachers are caring and warm and my children have thrived academically. It is everything that I would want in an elementary school. We hand picked this school after meeting with various principals and teachers and watching the interaction between the students and the teachers.
