| 6/28/2011 | parent | My son just finished up his K-5 experience at AES. I can't think of a better school in the area. The teachers are unsurpassed. The principal has provided amazing leadership and has added many programs such as Celebrate the Beat, First Notes and Half Notes, and has worked with the Vail Valley Foundation to provide after school activities. The school is now dual language and the parent involvement is great! LOVE this school! |
| 4/15/2011 | parent | This is a wonderful little neighborhood school. The staff is caring and treat the children with love and respect. The on-site preschool is a bonus...drop kids off at one place! The education my kids received at AES was outstanding! |
| 4/14/2011 | parent | Avon offers an amazing education. Not only is there a dual language component which challenges all students, but the 3-5 graders get dance class with Celebrate the Beat, and my 3rd grader is in the Orchestra-First Notes program. Three days per week students can stay after school until 5:00 for exercise, enrichment, and tutoring through the Youth Foundation. The tutors are all certified teachers. If my child needed more time, Avon offers 3-5 weeks of extended year and they have offered Saturday school. Advanced students get extra support also. The is such a positive vibe every time I walk in that school: Music, dancing, Spanish and English being taught and spoken. Teachers have high expectations and the kids work hard! There is good turn out at our PTA meetings when they have advertised it well. Parents here want the best experience for their children. |
| 4/14/2011 | teacher | Avon Elementary School offers your child the opportunity to learn two languages simultaneously, participate in an orchestra program for 2nd and 3rd grade students, and learn to dance with professional dancer in the program Celebrate the Beat. Every program at Avon is offered for free or for a very low cost so that all students have the opportunity to participate in the arts. Avon's students perform at a high level in two languages and 100% of the native English speaking students are performing above grade level. In this day and age bilingualism is becoming a necessity, why not give your child the opportunity to learn two languages and surpass their peers in other schools. |
| 4/14/2011 | other | Avon Elementary has a highly educated staff that are involved beyond the school day with after school programs, teaching English classes for parents and community members and are great role models within the community. With their enthusiasm your child may learn to read and write in two languages (Spanish and English) while participating in Colorado's only elementary school orchestra for a few dollars a month and the amazing Celebrate the Beat dance program that rivals any high school dance program you will see in the area. To add there are countless studies that show that students that learn languages other than their native language at a young age think at a higher level than students that are not learning additional languages. I would send my child to Avon Elementary School in a heart beat! |
| 4/14/2011 | teacher | This is an AMAZING bilingual school that supports not only languages, but the arts with their music and dance programs. Very community oriented and there for each child and family. |
| 4/12/2011 | teacher | Avon Elementary offers a Dual Language Program (English/Spanish), performing arts programs of orchestra, vocals and dance as well as free tutoring, extended school year and after school programming. We have an absolutely wonderful and talented staff and our state school report card scores us much higher than this website (79/100). Our school's demographics are: 92% Hispanic, 7% Caucasian, 1% other, 86% of students speak Spanish as their first language and 79.3% of students qualify for the free/reduced lunch. Our school has growth that exceeds that state expectation for students on state assessments. We love to welcome the community to visit our school. | 12/2/2008 | parent | Avon Elementary has the best, most hard-working, teachers and staff in the District. The principal has a clear goal for success and genuinely cares about her community. If you want your child to be successful in life and the future, send them to Avon Elementary! |
| 6/7/2008 | parent | First of all let me say that it really does not matter where your child attends school. It's all about being involved with your child and helping them with their needs. Students who end up staying inside and watching tv all summer while {or all the time} the parents are working, and their school work end up suffering. My daughter not only knows how to read, write and speak a different language she now is socializing more. Learning another language is not a barrier and the younger they can do it the better. |
| 5/17/2007 | parent | Avon Elementary has the worst stadards and direction. If your child has a A-C avarage grade he/she will be concidered board. Do to other language needs the school teaches at such a low standard. This is fine, but your child will be conciderd a problem because they are board so the teachers and principal will single your child out for disaplinary probloms. So if you care about your childs education, well being, and sence of happines do not send your child to Avon Elementary. There are other, or I should say better choices out there. |
