| 10/20/2010 | parent | This school is a very safe and comfortable place for students to learn. The staff is open and welcomes comments from parents. This school communicates often with parents via phone calls. I receive phone calls almost daily and know exactly what is going on with my children and at the school. A++++ |

| 10/24/2009 | student | While attending NSBHS my junior year I was in a serious car accident. All of my teachers and guidance counselor pulled together to help me get back on track. Mr. Moskovits and Mrs. Conway are amazing! I would have never graduated without those 2. I was always and will always be proud to be a CUDA and national champion Showdoll! |
| 8/26/2009 | student | While the school may be a bit crowded, I've spent almost 4 years at this school and I honestly can't complain. The faculty truly are amazing and they go out of their way to make sure I understand anything and everything I need to know. |
| 3/14/2009 | parent | I made a conscious choice to send my kids to NSB High School. Their teachers went above and beyond and addressed any need my kids had. They encouraged them, advised them, and mentored them. Most of my kids are in college now and they are right up there and competitive with kids from other states. Some of the negative reviews may come from parents being unrealistic. Even the best school on earth isn't going to make your child do the work, go to class, make the commitment. That's the kid's responsibility and it is based on the values that were instilled in the kid during childhood. A good school can't substitute for bad parenting. NSB High provides a solid education even in spite of all the budget problems. Always proud to be a Cuda. |
| 1/4/2009 | teacher | I am a teacher at NSBH and am quite appalled by what some parents have said about the school. However, I am proud to also read the positive comments by students and community members. Before you make assumptions about funding and staff, get your facts straight and do some research. I have never worked so hard to help students receive support in their education. We have a great faculty and amazing programs for students. Go Cudas! |
| 10/1/2008 | parent | NSBHS is a decent school, w/ caring staff & the students are great! Be happy you are not in another county in Florida. Seriously!!! Grass isn't greener on the other side. The faculty & students are in my book above average for most schools in Florida. :) Very Caring Cudas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| 8/21/2008 | student | I loved NSBHS when I attended. The teachers always wanted to see me succeed. I did think, however, students of faculty got off better than the rest of us. But overall, I'm proud I'm a Cuda! |
| 7/27/2008 | teacher | New Smyrna Beach High School is an amazing school where I am proud to teach. I would not send my own children to any other school. The other reviews on this site come from parents and students who can only see things from their point of view. While I am sorry that some of them appear to have had unhappy experiences, I can tell you first hand that I have never been to a high school where the teachers, administrators and staff cared more for the students. As for the issues of funding, school budgets are a complicated matter that I don't even fully understand, but what I do know is that sports and other clubs all receive very little in the way of funding from the school, not by choice, but because of budget restraints set into place at a state level. Football funds itself with ticket sales. |
| 4/23/2008 | student | The staff of the school is rude, demeaning, and not exactly helpful. They only tell you what they want you to hear and they will with hold information that could potentially benefits the students, such as dual enrollment. They don t care what is best for the student or the parent; they only care about making money for themselves. They constantly talk down to students no matter how good they are. Don t get me wrong, there are some nice people there, however; they are few and far between. The discipline that is in place is unnecessary and absurd, but where discipline really needs to be (drugs and violence) it is lacking. Some teachers are amazing, and some never even show up to teach. It s a hard school, however; I supposed it is the same way in every high school. The only programs that get any attention or funding are sports and the showdolls and there are constant double standards in the school placed there by the staff. |
| 4/9/2007 | parent | Like all schools, you have some excellent teachers and some not-so-excellent ones. My kids have had both but overall, the educational quality was good and those of my children who have graduated have been accepted into good universities are competitive academically. School leadership is strong but I'd like to see more resources diverted from football and put into some other very deserving programs that prepare students more for career life later on. Some excellent programs subsist on minimal or no budgets or the donations of the teachers themselves, who are already underpaid. |
| 3/8/2007 | parent | All 5 of my adult children went to this school. I do not belive in the senior project. And the school only tells you what they want you to here. The voices of the teachers are not being heard by their peers, in turn the childrens voices are not heard. I belive that the senior project is like the fcats. It is limiting our teachers to teach what they belive our childrens need to know to continue their education. As a senior the children have enough to worrie about cars, jobs, communitee hours, and collage choice. My childrens senior year was misrable with the senior project. |
| 9/20/2006 | student | This school could be better. We finally got a new school and the facilities are worse than what we had. Some of the programs, like photo, are there but unde funded, and ill equipped to function. This is not a good school. |
| 9/20/2003 | other | i think the school is great the teachers are the best and the kids seem to learn more than usual |
