10/20/2012parentWe found the administration to be closed off to us as parents and our child's teachers to be condescending. On many occasions, we requested a status report on how our child was doing, what level reading and math would they consider our child to be, to no avail. After experiencing too many dead ends with regard to open, honest communication at Cornerstone, we chose not to return. We hear that some people have a good experience at this school; but it was not for us. We favor an open dialogue with our child's school administration and teachers, and this school seemed not to subscribe to the same notions.
10/20/2012parentWe were very disappointed with the lack of diversity in the teaching staff and administration at Cornerstone School. Many of the teaching staff and board of directors are long time parents, which leaves little, if any, room for accountability or conflict resolution. There was what appeared to be a serious lack of concern for the greater good of the students and parents and more of a feeling of protecting the inner circle of the administration. We left and are quite happy with our decision to do so.
10/16/2012parentWe took our child out of this school after one year in the LE program. We were disappointed to find the administration to be closed off to parental involvement. Additionally, we asked multiple times for our child's teachers to give us a sense of what academic level our child was performing, to no avail. We can't speak to the quality of the other teachers in the school, but our child's teachers kept us at arms length and were very condescending when we asked specific questions about our child's progress. This school is not for parents who wish to be involved, even on the perimeter, with their child's education.
6/26/2012parentThere has been a lack of communication between parents and the administration. My children loved their teachers but had issues on the playground that were not resolved or handled as they should have been. This school is not for everyone.
6/9/2012parentMy son has been attending school here for 2 years. All faculty have an excellent understanding of a child's developmental stages and needs. Any concerns have always been dealt with promptly and appropriately. My child is reading exceptionally well and performing math calculations way above his grade level. He is also very knowledgeable about geography and is still in kindergarten. We couldnt be happier!
5/27/2012parentWe have had three children enrolled at this school over the past eight (8) years and couldn't be happier with the results. It has been a wonderful experience for our children! The teachers are incredible and the admisistration is supportive. We are blessed to be part of this community. It is unfortunate that a few parents have had difficulites over the past six (6) months and wish to cast the school in a negative light.
5/24/2012parentCornerstone School has been a wonderful experience for our two children over the past 8 years. They have experienced terrific teachers, supportive administration and an overall excellent learning environment. We feel fortunate to have Cornerstone and all it offers to children and their families.
3/21/2011parentOur kids absolutely LOVE the school. Another reviewer mentioned reading difficulty one of their children experienced. It only reinforces that every child IS different and have unique needs. Our son is 6 and reading at a 3rd grade level. We have found the teachers to be passionate and create a very nurturing environment. Our children are thriving there. They are very smart, inquisitive with a burning desire to learn as much as they can while also learning respect and compassion for others. I wish I had gone through there when I was a child.
12/8/2010parentThe place is beautiful, unfortunately in the last year or two the quality of the leadership has declined significantly. About a third of all staff are parents of students, this fosters a complete lack of self criticism and growing mediocrity.
5/16/2009parentI previously wrote a glowing review for Cornerstone however my opinion has changed dramatically in one year. Our child was a student for a number years, the first few years were excellent, however, the school fell far short in teaching him to read. By the time we put him in our local public school, he was a full grade level behind in reading. He caught up to his peers in 3 academic quarters while in public school. I do believe the Montessori Method is superior in Math, Science and Cultural Studies, however, it is not as good as our local school's Harcourt Fundations literacy program. I urge caution: if your child is struggling with Montessori reading instruction, consider other literacy programs.
3/9/2005parentMy son has been going there since he was three. He loves the school and the teachers so much that he goes to the summer camp just to see everyone. He is growing into a kind, respectful, confident little boy. Academically, he is above average. I have observed our local school system and they cannot meet his needs. His CCD teacher at church has commented that he is the smartest and kindest child she has ever had the pleasure of meeting. I have to share the credit. I have two sisters that are teachers and they both agree, he would never get the attention in public school that he receives at the Cornerstone School. He just loves it!
9/30/2004parentThe Cornerstone school is an indescribably wonderful environment for children from preschool through eighth grade. I had one child transfer to Cornerstone in 4th grade and graduate from 8th grade, and another child, currently in Upper Elementary, who has been there since kindergarten. The environment is one of respect and nurturing. The faculty and administration is of the highest caliber and will always work with the parents and children to come up with creative approaches to education. At times the solutions arrived at may not exactly match the typical Montessori approach; the school always has the best interests of the individual child at heart. The school's surroundings are beautiful, with acres of fields and hills to run and play.
