10/29/2012 | parent | I LOVE THIS SCHOOL...TEACHERS ARE GREAT...MY KIDS ARE HAPPY TO BE HERE..FOR ME HAS BEEN SUCH A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE... |
2/14/2012 | other | I am a Floral Park resident, but my kindergarten-aged son is in private school for two reasons. First, Floral Park does not have a full-day kindergarten with aftercare like most districts, and my wife and I both work. We wanted to inquire about sending my son to first grade at Floral Park-Bellerose last year, a year early, because his IQ was measured by a psychologist as being genius level and he has already completed everything taught in first grade, but the principal declined to return phone calls for two weeks and then dismissively told me that she would not even consider it. So we sent him to private kindergarten, and we thought we'd try again for first grade this fall. This time, I have not been able to get the person in charge of aftercare to return my phone calls. The impression I have been given is that the administration cannot handle anything but the average and expected, and is completely inflexible. Since that does not bode well for our son's education, we are looking into private schools for the long haul. If it turns out that we cannot afford private school and have to send our son here, I will update with whatever positive or negative details develop then. |
5/26/2011 | parent | Floral Park Bellerose is a good school overall. I currently have one child attending the school and another child attending kindergarten in September. Considering all of the taxes we pay, it is unfortunate for both the children and working parents that the school only offers a 1/2 day kindergarten program. All the surrounding districts, in both Nassau and Queens county, offer full day kindergarten. |
5/1/2010 | parent | The educational standards f this school is incredible. However, because of budget cuts programs for the students are being cut. The school has a high graduation rate compared to most school as well as high scoring students on mandatory tests |
12/18/2009 | parent | This is an outstanding school with terrific teachers and a great adminstration staff. |
5/27/2009 | student | I have been a student at FPBS since 1st grade, and will be graduating this year. My teachers have been...... Well some years well-educated and others....not the sharpest.. :) The lunch is well balanced, with an option of salad, milk, OJ, and fresh fruit. There is a routine for the main meal for lunch, usually chicken nuggets Monday, hamburger Tuesday, pasta Wednesday, random(usually cheeseburger) Thursday, and pizza on Friday. There is always an alternate meal, and you can buy ice cream, too. The staff is friendly enough, with some polite people to work with. Students have a special activites that they go to everyday of the week. Different specials are set on different days, depending on whoose class you're in. These specials include music, library, gym (twice a week), and art. Other activities are computer class, and have science lab. We do different projects in both, visiting both once a week. Cool-skool:) |
1/21/2009 | parent | My son will be graduating from this school this year. He has been there since 1st grade. The school is safe, clean and the education given there is very good. However, there are alot of teachers and administration there that do not look at, and treat minority students and parents the same as they treat their own race. The behavior problems are not addressed personally, the whole class is usually blamed for one students behavior problem. Students whose families that have lived in Floral Park for generations are favored, and their problems are ignored. There is that cold feeling of racism there. Hopefully that will change in time because the minority parents are paying the same taxes that other parents are paying for their childen to attend the Floral Park Bellerose school, and they wouldn't want to be treated like that or have their own children treated unfairly. |
8/30/2007 | parent | I have my one son in 6th grade and another going to kindergarten.Kindergarten is only from 12 to 3.30pm for 5 year old.ie.only three and half hours this is really really bad for working parents. We pay so much in taxes and have no choice but to send my kid for pre-k and k to private school.Other than that school is good from 1st grade to 6th grade.Again gifted program is only available for few chosen kids ,the marks do not count the teacher rates the student! They merely go by IQ not aptitude! |
11/30/2006 | parent | I have one child who graduated from this school and one who is currently attending. The problem with this school is they teach to the mid-range student. They do very little to challenge an above average child. Behavior issues are often not addressed and become the problem of the entire class. How is a young child supposed to be accountable for someone else's behavior. The lunch room is also a constant problem. Many of the lunch monitors have no patience with the children. Children are rushed through their lunch and often times, not allowed to use the rest room. |
2/14/2006 | parent | This has been a great school for my daughter. The teacher's have been wonderful. My daughter has loved her teacher year after year. The staff seem very dedicated and hard working. It has been an overall great experience. |
1/26/2006 | student | I think the floral park bellerose school is great place. It has lovely staff and students. |
1/21/2005 | parent | I think academically, this school is very good. Both of my children are excelling in all areas of education. Mrs. Lanteri, Mrs. Lynch and Ms. Gennaro were all a very positive influence on the children. Our only complaints to date are, this is an inclusion school and there are too many children with special needs and dicipline problems which have an impact on classroom focus and the principal is too concerned with the politics of running the school then dealing with the direct issues at hand. These critiques aside, this is a nurturing and safe enviroment for the children. |
8/10/2004 | teacher | My child has had a great experience at this school. Individual needs are met with compassion without compromising her education. High expectations with kindness! |
7/16/2004 | parent | This is a terrific school! I have never seen anything underhanded or controlling. My three children have had a wonderful experience here. The teachers are very caring and the principal is strict, which I think is a good thing! We have one of the lowest budgets on Long Island yet we are one of the top elementary schools based on NYS standardized testing. The school has high standards and a lot of extra help for children who have learning issues. |
5/19/2004 | parent | This school is run by a very controlling administration. They have three lawyers on their Board of Education which is unheard of. They play underhandedly to win whatever conflict is going on with the parents. The Principal does not put his students well-being first. |
