9/21/2012parentA past PA Blue Ribbon school. Kind teachers and staff. Good leadership. Strong education with strong character building as well. The kids learn not only their ABC's and numbers, but how to be respectful and helpful people in the world. A lesson many other schools need to start passing along since kids aren't necessarily getting it at home. The township is in the process of building a new Intermedicate Elementary School to house grades three through five. It has been a well-thought out process with input from TONS of educators, administration, parents, teachers and students. Can't wait to see the new building finished and the smiles on the faces of the students who excitedly get to occupy it in August 2013!
3/30/2012parentI have been consistently impressed with this school. My daughter has attended from KG thru 3rd grade. Everyday when she gets off the bus and I ask her "How was your day?", her response is: "Great!". The academics are very strong, but also the kids are able to become involved in all kinds of interesting activities, like "Artist in residence", geology projects, sports, clubs, etc. Every year I think: "This has to be the last great teacher, next year we'll get a bad one...." (really, who gets an awesome teacher every year???), and yet so far every teacher thus far has impressed me beyond belief. They care, they are very progressive with the use of technology in the classroom, they communicate with parents often, they provide positive feedback, and they really excite their students to learn. It seems to be a younger, more energetic teaching staff than I remember having as a child, so perhaps that is the secret. It is also a positive, "bullying-free" environment where I feel like all the kids get along well, not a lot of cliques or worrying about being popular (not yet at least....). We LOVE South Fayette!
5/26/2011parentFrom the outstanding campus to the top notch teachers, South Fayette is truly an amazing school district. I think that one of the best indicators of how well a school district is doing is if your children actually enjoy going to school. Both of my children love going to SF. My daughther is in 5th grade and my son is in 1st grade and I can sincerely say that they really like going to school. We have never encountered a "bad" teacher. The teachers interact consistently with the parents while allowing the students to develop a strong sense of independence and responsibility. They truly make learning fun and encourage the kids to think independently and creatively. There is a reason that South Fayette is ranked so high and I feel blessed that my children are able to attend such a wonderful school.
10/21/2010parentI love South fayette because of the caring staff that take the time to teach and care for my son. It is number 1 in my eyes!
8/26/2010parentSouth Fayette Elementary School is a wonderful place for students. They work very hard to make sure every student learns at a nice pace, while also including time for specials such as arts alive, gym, library, art and music. We bought our home in this area specifically because the school district is excellent!
6/30/2009parentSouth Fayette gets a good rating from me, with reservations. The district has grown a lot in the last few years and the growing pains are most evident in the crowded Elementary School. The school and teachers have been responsive and caring, but the level of discipline required for 900+ kids K-4 reduces the amount of personal attention outside the classroom that makes for a good Elementary School. The parent-teacher conference days and school events are so crowded, there's very little time for interaction with the school at all -- it's just crowd control.
5/27/2009parentWe moved to this school district b/c of the reputation it holds.I found the standard quite satisfactory. Teachers and Administration keeps us informed about everything through e-mails. We dont need to check the e-mails every other hour.I check them once in the afternoon and know e'thing what's going on in the school district. I'm a parent to Elementary student but never received any homework or assignments through e-mail. My child brings all his home/class work home with him. The questionare material sent home for test preparation is very helpful for students/parents to know what to expect in tests and how to prepare for one.I think the materials help the parents to improve their child in the weaker sections of any subject. Overall I like the school.
12/2/2008parentWe moved to this district based on their reputation. It is a disappointment, especially the elementary school. Since the teachers are always on their computers e-mailing parents items for us to print, when are they teaching the kids?? They are being trained like monkeys to pass the state tests--their scores are all that matter to the administration.
9/18/2008parent How can children learn responsibilty when all of their assignments are e-mailed to their parents?? Elementary school lacks effort to differentiate instruction. Children are given assignments that are all the same and all teachers are to be doing the same lessosn the same days leaving no room for creativity.
9/6/2008parentI'm not sure my children are going to the same school as some of the other review writers. My children have thrived at South Fayette. They have learned how to become model citizens. They are respectful of other students, and enjoy going to school each day. The teachers are the best around...they return my calls, treat my children with repect and encourage a healthy learning environment. We are proud to be a part of such a fine school district and township.
4/10/2008parentWhile the district gets good PR, they teach to the test rather than educating the child. Hence they look much better than they really are. They also do not manage their budget well, have extravagant building / spending issues which has resulted in increasingly higher and higher taxes and budgetary issues each year
1/30/2008parentHigher curricular standards. Quick response from Teachers and staff . Very much organized. I Love the school.
1/22/2008parentWow, after reading some of the bad reviews I was wondering if those parents actually have kids in the school district. I do not think it's over rated at all. I think the teachers do a wonderful job and the school facilities are top notch and build pride in the children and the community. Yes we pay for it in taxes, but I do not regret it for a moment. My children are being taught and will be prepared for the future. If only the 'Jones's' had it this good.
12/31/2007parentThis school requests too much work from the students and overall just puts too much stress on the children. They have no socialization time and do not have a lot of one-on-one time with the teachers because of the large class sizes. South Fayette also spends a lot of money on uneeded accessories for the school instead of needed items such as desks and chairs for the students, textbooks for the students, new and updated computers for the students, and regular school supplies for the students. Yes, South Fayette may have many classes for the students to take that most schools do not, but the students do not have the freedom to pick which classes they would like to take. The school also forces the students to sing songs about how great South Fayette is. The teachers rarely interact with the students, too.
9/26/2007parentThis school is overrated Test scores are high, but the tests are taught. Different abilities are not met. All children in primary grades do the exact same lessons and homework every day. There is no individual assistance or creativity in teaching.
5/16/2006parentSouth Fayette is a nouveau riche, keep up with the Joneses, my kid is better than yours kind of district. Everything here is about money, not just personally, but scholastically as well.
8/5/2005parentVery sound school district. I attended this district when I was a child, and made it a point to move back to this township now that I have children to provide them the same wonderful opportunities I had growing up.
10/6/2003parentSouth Fayette is one of the better schools in the south hills area. The teachers are fantastic and my son is really doing well.He had previously gone to Mt. Lebanon and did not do as well. The whole school staff at SF is very caring and very friendly. Children are the first priority. It is a first class school district.
