8/19/2011parentExcellent all the way around. Caring and supportive administration, teachers who go above and beyond understanding your child in conjunction with strong academics. This is truly a "community school." If you have a child with a learning difference RUN to this school. It is truly awesome.
3/31/2011parentIf you have a child suffering with self confidence, ADHD, Dyslexia, Bullying, or being treated unfairly in public school. YOU OWE IT TO YOUR CHILD AND YOURSELF to just check out this school. 5the 6TH and 7th grade were a nightmare, my child was skipping school, failing, not doing any work, just going thru the motions, and mentally shutting down. And more than likely heading down a path to teen rebellion, drugs and crime. He hated school! He had no friends. He was failing 7th grade. A year into it, he has friends, loves his school and teachers and makes mostly B's. I would go into debt to make sure he attends this school thru graduation. Just take the time to visit, you wont regret it.
11/18/2010parentGreat Lakes Academy has changed my sons entire outlook on school. He loves going to school. He's successfull, which in returns helps his confidence and his future. The only thing I wished, that we had moved him at a younger age! After attending K-6 in public school our sons self esteem was very low. Now 4th year at Great Lakes Academy it's amazing and so are the teachers!
6/1/2010parentGLA has been incredible for our son who has Asperger's Syndrome & ADHD. He is so loved and respected for who he is and he can feel that acceptance. He is learning so much and is way beyond his grade level in academics. Social skills are blossoming. The leadership is loving, kind, & they are all about the KIDS. We have loved our experience at GLA.
11/2/2009parentMy child attended GLA. The teachrs went above and beyond what is expected to provide my child with the tools to be successful at college. Many of the tools or what I refer to as 'tricks' made a difference in college. Simple things like how to check class notes, how to ask for help from professors and guidance counselors, scheduling, and just as important social skills to make and keep friends.
10/21/2009parentThis school helps students who have no where else to turn. It really does make a difference in their lives.
10/20/2009teacherGreat Lakes Academy has been a wonderful place for children who didn't get the kind of instruction or encouragement they needed in any other environment. It can be a place for children to become successful and feel positive about themselves.
10/16/2009studentthey give all student's hands on attention...they really care if about all of us students.
10/16/2009otherEvery child has an opportunity to learn regardless of their unique learning style.
10/15/2009parentGreat Lakes Academy is a great school for kids with various learning differences. They provide a safe and nurturing environment with caring teachers and staff.
12/28/2008parentMy son started at Great Lakes only a few months ago and I feel like the luckiest Mom in Plano to have found this school. I feel like I have my son back ! The dedication of the teachers and staff are unmatched. They care about each child as a whole being and take interest in what is going on in their lives so they can educate each child in their own unique way. My son is now doing extra credit at school and just a few short months ago at public school he was failing in many subjects ! This school defenitely gets five stars
1/8/2008parentGreat school, my son is doing so well here. The staff is incredible and the class size really contributes to the school's overall success with their students.
5/1/2007parentThis school is incredible! The administration and teachers go above and beyond to help the students. My son absolutely loves going to school here. And this is a child who previously detested school. Great Lakes has changed him into a different person. He now has a high self esteem. He has friends. He has respect for his teachers and his peers. He didn't have any of this before attending Great Lakes. We were at the end of our rope, trying to get teachers in the public school sytstem to be understanding, and still provide him with a decent education. My son was failing most subjects before starting at Great Lakes. He is now getting A's in all subjects. I strongly recommend this school for any parent who has a child that is struggling in the public school. This school specializes in ADHD kids, but also accepts kids with other learning disabilities.
