6/11/2012parentMoncure is an excellent school, my kids just finished the 5th grade and I feel that this school has done a wonderful job preparing my children for the sixth grade. Thanks to all the Staff and Teachers
9/12/2011parentMoncure Elementary is a FABULOUS school which offers multiple tools and effective ways for our children to learn. Its a very parent friendly environment, even the Principal takes the time to meet and greet everyone. My son LOVES the school and so far has liked every teacher there. I am shocked to see such a low rating for this school. Its not accurate and parents should evaluate themselves before they ridicule other kids at the school. Kids behavior has a lot to do with parenting, don't blame the school b.c. your kid was disciplined or dealt with other types of personalities at the school. MONCURE IS AWESOME!
8/28/2011parentMy son will be starting school at Moncure Elementary for the first time this year and I was so nervous because I was afraid the size of the school would intimidate him and I became a little more nervous seeing that the school only rated a 4 out of ten on this site, but after reading the reviews I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. It's great to have sites like this were parents can see how the school rates. I think we're ready for this year and I am now excited for my son to start school, meet his new teachers and make new friends. Thanks Great Schools.
4/7/2011parentAnne Moncure is a wonderful Elementary School with a very friendly and welcoming environment where the administration, staff and parents are very involved in the well being of the students. I also feel that my daughter is getting a wonderful education and I am very surprised that there is only a rating of 6 for Anne Moncure (maybe the number was transposed incorrectly and should be a 9). =)
3/20/2011parentAnne E moncure elementary school has excellent teachers, a strong principal and school leadership, and they give you alot of things as a parent you can get involved in at the school.
3/12/2010parentMy second grader loves going to school at Anne E. Moncure every day. She is well matched to her teacher, and I have a confident student who is challenged just enough to keep up her self esteem. What more could a parent ask?
3/11/2010parentI am really surprised that Moncure has rated only a 6 with greatschools.org. I feel this needs reevaluation. As far as the previous comment of lack of respect of students, this is not in any means a showing on the school but rather the parents, which I feel is most evident in ALL schools these days. This school is challenging, and I come from a lineof very strict DOD schooling from around the world, some of the best and finest and moncure shares most of the same great qualities which is hard to find in a public school. Moncure gives opportuinities to every parents almost every month, it a means of the parents wanting to be involved. There has been times when I would have free time and just walk in to see if anyone needed help, and the school was more than happy to accept my assistancce.
4/7/2009parentI currently have a child at Moncure who will be heading off to Middle School next year. Several of these earlier reviews were written when the school was transitioning to a new administration. None of those administrators are still in the school. We have a very active PTO who holds meetings monthly and all parents are invited. There are may activities that monthly for all to participate in. The music department has Chorus and Percussion clubs. The Art department has a Art club held weekly as well. The security is not 'Ft. Knox' like but we do require ID to visit a room and to sign a chold out (county policy) which are always a good idea. We love Moncure so much that I just requested a waiver for my youngest to start Kindergarten there next year as we moved to a different school district. This school ROCKS!!
7/17/2008parentMy two boys went to Moncure last year before we moved to Hawaii. I was impressed with the teachers they had. One of my boys was in Mrs. Rodriguez's class. She was great! The other was in Miss Burdette's Class. Last year was her first year teaching but by the end of the year she was probably as seasoned as all the veteran teachers after having my son in her class. She was great. If you have a child going into 5th grade, I recommend her highly. Good Luck next school year. Mahalo!
6/5/2008parentThis school is great! The entire staff at Moncure is helpful and caring. The principal and assistant principal are very involved in student activities and know each student personally. The school and its PTO have many opportunities for parents to be involved and to motivate students. The teachers are just as great!!!
4/27/2008parentthis school made it very easy for my kindergartener to swich into from a north Carolina elementary school. The teachers are knowledgeable and very helpful and are very excited about what they do with the children. We love the p.t.o. Activities and how they show interest in each child.
4/14/2008parentI am very pleased with Moncure Elementary. The principal or vice principal is out every morning greeting kids and are both very approachable and quick to help when you ask. The school has a welcoming feeling and high excpectations for everyone that both my children and myself appreciate. You'll love it here.
9/14/2007parentMoncure is taking steps in the right direction. This year there are many opportunities to help out. School has increased the communication level immensely.
8/27/2007teacherMoncure has a caring and dedicated staff. There are many opportunities for parents to be involved, the art room always welcomes volunteers, our PTO is also very involved with almost weekly opportunities for parents to participate in school enrichment. We offer both a chorus and a percussion ensemble for students to be involved in the music program beyond thier scheduled music time. Disrespect toward adults or other students is not tolerated. Most teachers frequently contact parents with positive information not only keeping them aware of any concerns. We take great pride in our students, we have a title one school that out preforms some more affluent schools. In the 06-07 year Moncure passed AYP (the federal standards to acredit schools) this can not be said for several other nearby schools.
8/12/2007parentMy child attended this school for half of a school year. There seemed to be a decent amount of work, but my child frequently did not feel challenged, or motivated. We were disappointed in the music program, or lack of. We were extremely disappointed by the lack of respect from students, in regards to fellow classmates and teachers. For myself I was frustrated with the fact that there was little parent/teacher contact and that there was little opportunity to get involved inside of the school.
5/23/2006parentMoncure is a good school if you have an average joe kind of kid who can do without recess and without the needed benifit of getting a high quality education. My kids have both regressed in the year and a half of being at this school. And SOL's are a joke. the whole point is to learn the material during the school year, not cram it all in during a 2 month crash study course. Overall I am very disappointed in the school I feel it is letting down not only the kids but the families. And yes I did try to volunteer and donate my time, not an easy thign to do unless you have an in.
3/17/2006parentI had 4 children who attended this school and actually have 2 children with learning disabilities, for my oldest her teacher helped us get her the help she needed and she recieved her IEP (shes now in college) my 2nd son is now in spotsy and trust me I wish we were at Moncure. I volunteered in the Art room, was a lunchroom hostess, volunteered in all 4 of my childrens classrooms and never had any problems. Sometimes you just need to keep asking and maybe not your childs teacher but elsewhere in the school. My youngest is now only in 4th grade although she is an A student we are in Spotsy now and I miss Moncure a lot!
2/12/2006teacherThis is a great school that offers multiple opportunties for students to learn and achieve. As far as thinking it is Fort Knox, would you want it to be your child that something happened to because they didn't apply reasonable security precautions? They offer a math club,Books For A Buck, reading programs, and chorus. Overall this is a great school and getting better.
1/11/2006parentI am a Stafford County native and personally went to Moncure ES and now my son attends. He is in first grade and we've been very pleased with his work and the progress we've seen. He's had an awesome kindergarten teacher and now an awesome first grade teacher. We've been able to communicate with his teacher without any difficulty. We also take time to help him practice and review the things he learns-it's not soley the responsibility of the teachers. One parent wrote 'It was like Fort Knox' to get into their child's class. Can I just say that in this day and age I am GLAD Moncure takes those extra steps to provide a safe environment for my child. In the other reviews the children attended Moncure for a short time-I think given a longer period of adjustment their reviews may have differed.Moncure is a good school :)
8/5/2005parentAfter January of 2005, I never saw the principal, neither in the halls, at lunch, or after school. I had a very difficult time getting into my 2nd graders classroom. The biggest disappointment for me was recess... my children rarely had recess. They would both tell me that the class had not finished their work so the whole class would stay inside as a punishment. Both my children have gained weight since entering Moncure because they sit all day long. That's not right.
6/6/2004parentMy Children attended this school in 2004 and for our family it was a huge disappointment. Class size is too large to teach effectivly. I also have had a very hard time, getting into the school. I told them it was like fort Knox. I felt there was no open-door policy with my children's teachers. Be prepared if your child needs special help. My child was diagnosed with a problem, before we started school and the teacher told us that our child did not have a any concerns. One week later our child was put in tutoring to help with other problems, but never focused on the area of concern. The problem was never taken care of by the school. The children only get recess if the teachers feel it is needed. Hopefully, the new school principal will start changing things in the near future.
3/18/2004parentMy children attended this school a few months in 2003. I was very disappointed with the overall quality. Foremost, this is not a parent-friendly environment. So if you find being part of your child's education is important, you might want to reconsider sending your child to this school. You can only volunteer on very few occasions. And if the teacher is already accustomed to one parent, chances are you might not get a chance. The teachers aren't easily accessible and parents aren't allowed inside the school at any time or for any reason unless you have an appointment with someone. This is also a school where discipline is deficient, resulting in an unsafe environment. Respect is not emphasized, in which case students get away with saying obscenities to teachers and/or other students. My children experienced a few incidents, which I reported, but nothing was ever done to rectify the problems
