Grants Pass, Oregon is a small and vibrant city with a population of around 35,000 people. It is the county seat of Josephine County and is located in the beautiful Rogue Valley in southern Oregon. Politically, Grants Pass is primarily represented by Republican candidates at the local, state, and federal levels. The current mayor is John Jurisich and he is supported by two city council members, Ray Gomes and Stephanie Von Neida. These three individuals make up the city's governing body and are responsible for creating the laws that govern Grants Pass. Additionally, Grant's Pass residents are represented in the Oregon Legislature by State Senator Jeff Golden as well as Representatives Lynn Findley and Carl Wilson. On a national level, Congressman Greg Walden represents Grants Pass in Congress. All of these politicians strive to ensure that Grants Pass has a prosperous future through responsible policy making which supports economic growth while maintaining quality public services for its citizens.

Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.
