| Beautiful Town but Not the Best for Young Adults - 1/23/2020
My fiance and I moved here in 2018 shortly after finishing college. I work in Colorado Springs and she works in the Denver area, so Castle Rock was practically our only option. The town is absolutely stunning! I never get tired of seeing the sun set over the mountains, and getting around is much less stressful than it would be in metro Denver. The climate is just about perfect if you are looking for four distinct seasons. However, my fiance has started to get pretty severe nose bleeds due to the dry air. Castle Rock is definitely a family town. We hardly see any other people who look to be our age. I am always blown away when we go up to Denver at how many young people I see there; I am just not used to it anymore. Castle Rock has virtually zero nightlife; almost all of the restaurants, breweries, and bars close very early. The good news is it's not terribly far to Denver so when can always go up there when we get bored. Also as everyone else says, housing costs are very expensive and we believe we are several years away from being able to afford a home here.

| The Unforgettable Sunset - 4/26/2018
I have always been mobile for my career, until I moved to Castle Rock. I've lived in in multiple cities in the Midwest including Chicago and have visited nearly every metro area in the US for work. Many of those areas were forgettable, but I still remember my first visit to Castle Rock in 2010 when I took a picture of the stunning orange/red mountain sunset from the Lowe's parking lot. That framed picture hung in my home in Oklahoma and it has now hung in my Castle Rock home for over 5 years. The only difference is now I get to enjoy this alluring landscape daily:)
I still travel extensively and have yet to visit a place that would entice me to move, including Southern California, Pacific Northwest, Etc. These places are great to vacation, which is easy to do from DIA, but livability is much lower IMHO.
The schools options here are stellar. My young daughter loves her daily life here including her school and the parks.
Concrete Aspects that I Like the Most
-Safety, Trail System, Schools, Educated/Affluent life approach, Access to concert venues (Red Rocks Amphitheater) and amenities (parks and pools), Active population which creates a positive vibe

| Why is the air quality so bad in C.R.? - 4/19/2014
Castlerock sounds like a great place to live but why is the air quality so bad? That is so disappointing to see because we were looking at relocating to the area but with having Asthma, I'm not sure if that would be wise or not.

| Cost of living Question: - 11/13/2012
My husband and I are thinking of moving to Castle Rock, CO, from Lincoln, Nebraska. We can relocate with our current jobs, between the both of us we earn about 90K annually. Is this a good enough wage to live in Colorado? Of course in time, we will get a cost of living increase but who knows really what percentage that will be. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you

| Denver is Awesome! - 8/17/2012
My uncle that lives in Castle Rock wanted me to visit him for years. I put it off thinking "oh well, it's only Denver" (who cares). August 5th 2012 I finally went to visit him. The airport was amazing. But the drive home from the Airport was ok. But that's when my story starts. We arrived at his home and I was amazed at the view of the mountains, amazed with the weather. In the middle of summer there is no humidity and the best part - no bugs like we have in Chicago. Long story short, we called a realtor and I am now buying a vacation home in that area. Denver is simply amazing. The beauty, the people, the food. Boulder and its "Pearl street" is awesome, Estes Park, Need I say more...

| Sunny! - 5/2/2011
Although the winters seem to drag on, the sunshine is always around the corner. One week there will be a blizzard, and the next it will be in the 60's :) It's May. Last week it was in the 60's, today it snowed, and next week it will be in the 70's. It has some of the most sunny days in the continental United States.

| Cost of Living - 3/18/2010
Castle Rock, CO is situated in Douglas County. Douglas county is ranked in the top five per capita incomes in the United States. The overall cost of living here is high, however, the cost of living is relative to the higher average per capita household income. A healthy salary/income goes along way to help one "live the dream" here.

| living in Castle Rock, CO - 9/9/2009
We've lived in Castle Rock for 4 years. We moved here from Redondo Beach, CA. Be prepared for some adjustment when making that big of an altitude change, but it's not that bad. The dryness is also something to be reckoned with, especially if you're used to a lot of moisture. But now it's actually difficult to go back to the ocean -- just feel sticky all the time. Castle Rock is a beautiful place to live but it's growing very fast. Population has doubled since 2000 (according to Sperling data). The roads are not bad, as mentioned by a 2007 review on Sperling, unless you're not a good driver. Winter can be tricky. The I25 has been undergoing improvements here in Castle Rock, with an effort to keep up with the population growth, etc. The cost of living is getting high, however. If you're thinking of moving here, or anywhere between Denver and Colorado Springs, be sure you understand what an HOA is, because most of the housing is HOA. This can truly be a difficult adjustment. But the difference between a crowded city of about 70k, where there is literally no open space (unless you happen to be lucky enough to live across from the ocean), and a town that includes non-buildable open space in all of it's neighborhoods, makes the move so worthwhile if space is something you're yearning for. In our opinion, Castle Rock, CO is a very nice place to live.

| The beauty and splendor of Castle Rock - 10/18/2008
Castle Rock, incorporated in 1881, is nestled in the heart of East Plum Creek Valley, surrounded by rocky buttes and featuring stunning views of the Rocky Mountains.
Named for the prominent rock formation that overlooks the Town, Castle Rock features several planned developments tied together by its historic downtown. First settled in the 1870s, the Town soon became a center for rhyolite mining and an important station for north-south railroad traffic.
The Town has grown from 3,900 people in 1980 to an estimated 42,000 in 2006, and retains its small-town character and distinct community boundaries.
Clear days and blue skies are the norm, with an average of 255 days of sunshine a year. The average high temperature is 85 degrees in the summer months and 44 degrees in the winter. Annual snowfall is 62.2 inches, and the average humidity is 40 percent.
Castle Rock provides several indoor and outdoor leisure opportunities including the Community Recreation Center, 400 acres of parks, the Red Hawk Ridge municipal golf course, and Hidden Mesa open space. Residents and visitors can also enjoy a full range of shopping experiences, from downtown boutiques to department stores and the Outlets at Castle Rock, or enjoy dining on anything from fast food to gourmet.
The small town charm, beautiful views and unique culture attract more than 2,500 new residents annually. You can learn more about our community by watching our award-winning television news magazine, Castle Rock View, on DC8, channel 22 or online.

| Overall opinion of Castle Rock, CO - 7/22/2007
I've lived in Colorado for 15 years, and in Castle Rock for over 5 years. The quality of living is good, a tad expensive, but overall good. We live in an area called Founders Village, and all of our neighbors are very friendly, and shopping is very close to us. Castle Rock keeps growing more and more by the day, but we need more restaurants and things to do.
I would definitely say the worst thing about Castle Rock is the weather. Summer is great! Typically it's warm and dry, although the weather is always kind of a guess. The winter is the worst. It can snow anywhere from 1/2 an inch to 15 inches in one day. The roads are awful. And the weather people just can't figure out how much we should expect.
Overall, I would give this city a 7 out of 10.
