| High Cost of Living - Heavy Traffic - 12/12/2021
I grew up in the area around Elk Grove and it was a very small rural town up to the year 2000. We moved to ELk grove in 2009 and commuted to work in Sacramento. At that time our commute was 20-30 minutes but that changed quickly as Elk Grove grew way to quickly. We used to be able to travel to the other side of town within 10 minutes now it takes 30-40 mins. This town was once small and quaint but has turned into a mini bay area. Literally most all people who live in Elk Grove now are from the bay area. This has brought horrible traffic, ridiculous amount of Starbucks and fast-food restaurants and less mom-and-pop businesses, to top it the house prices are so high there is no way anyone can buy a home unless they come from the bay. We were lucky to get in when we did but I am afraid of what the future holds with crime due to the uncontrollable growth. In addition, they are having developers build "affordable housing" starting at 400k lol, my question is where is all the water going to come from since we let our water go to the ocean? The future of Elk Grove includes high cost of living pricing out people who can not afford to rent or buy a home which will lead to higher crime rates.

| good right now, but how will it be in the future - 4/2/2019
Elk Grove is a very diverse city. A long time ago it use to be very white. Now the white population is about 40%, then next majority race are Asian, then Hispanic, followed with a Black/African American population of about 10-13%. Just driving around and going to the shopping centers and stores, you can see that diversity. So if this is high importance to you, then there you go. A lot of new and old time Elk Grove citizens are mixed about how Elk Grove will be in the future. It has already turned more diverse through the years due to a lot of Bay Area residents moving there. Some might consider that good, some bad. Also because of this, it has raised the market rate for the homes. New 3000 sq ft homes are easily in the $500K. Some may consider high for the region. Just looking present day, Elk Grove provides good diversity and that diversity brings many types of diverse businesses. You'll have your ethnic stores and also your typical stores. The school district is good here, but not great or the best--which goes to Roseville, Rocklin, Folsm. Crime is currently ranked good but not great or the best. And this could be related to the outlook of Elk Grove in the future. Many residents especially long time residents are saying Elk Grove is going downhill. The demographic has clearly shifted and will continue to is what they are saying. Take it as you may, but Asian population may overtake White in the years to come. A lot of conservatives dont like that and thus why they are saying Elk Grove is changing to what they do not agree with. Also with South Sacramento bordering Elk Grove, there is constant debate of crime fall off. It's often argued but its a legitimate argument. It is a fact that South Sacramento area is one of the worse areas and does have high crime, and it is a fact that Elk Grove borders it. Crime stats are still good in Elk Grove though, so its just something you have to think of. The nice thing about Elk Grove is it's only 1hr and 45min with no traffic to San Jose. Even closer to the east bay. Elk Grove is a fine city right now, but there are just too many tangibles at the moment and it's probably the suburb city in Sacramento that may have the biggest changes in years to come, so if you are dropping $500-600K+ for a new home here, or any home for that matter thinking that things will only get better, just look at the past first to get a better idea where the future is headed. Remember for transplants moving from the bay area, when you move here of course this maybe all positives, but dig deeper and you may see how much better it was in the past, and for long time residents, what you think is great, is already meh for them now. In comparison, if you go to Rocklin or Roseville, where homes are much higher in price for similar sq footage, there is no fall off as it doesnt border bad areas, and already the higher price of a home there prices out a lot of people.

| Hot Summers - 4/26/2014
Our neighborhood is o.k. but it is expensive to live here and the air is oppressive during the summer when it gets hot for a week or more. Days over 95 and nights of 75. A little too hot for us.

| Elk Grove - 11/30/2011
Elk Grove has grown too fast. With its growth has come more stores and hospitals and other good things. With this growth has also come too many people, traffic congestion, and crime. The climate here is dry and hot in the summer. The remainder of the year is mild.

| So-so - 8/11/2010
Real estate prices have plummeted and several restaurants have gone out of business. The weather is hot in the summer with occasional breezes from the delta. It gets in the hi 30's to mid 50's in the winter. Clean town. Only 2.5 hrs from Tahoe area and 2 hrs from San Francisco.

Fair place to live, small community with easy access to Sacramento. Jobs are scarce and housing has held its value even with vast number of foreclosures. Nice parks.

| Lighter Traffic, Fewer Employed People? - 6/6/2009
We live in Elk Grove, CA. For years, it has been a pretty nice place to live but recently we have seen gang writing and groups of kids hanging out in our little park..... Our business in Fair Oaks, Sacramento County, is very slow. We are working longer hours and making half the money we used to make. We have been in business for 18 years here and residents for over 40 years. Many stores have closed and business buildings are vacant. It seems unemployment is probably much higher than the reported 11%. We would like to retire but we can't.... very sad.

Overall Elk Grove has a nice climate. Maybe a little too hot in the summer sometimes & too damp in the winter some days, but in general pretty comfortable.

| Elk Grove, Ca. Climate - 7/9/2007
Elk Grove is located in the lower Sacramento Valley of Inland Northern California. Its climate is a combination of Continental and Marine West Coast. Although only 100 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the city is separated from the open sea by the Coast Range. This allows for a variation in seasonal temperatures not seen at the coast. This is especially true in summer, when temperatures in the valley can peak at over 100F while those at the coast remain in the 50's and 60's. Conversely, in winter, Elk Grove can see daytime highs dipping into the upper 30's and lower 40's while those in the nearby Bay Area can remain in the 50's.
Its Continental influence provides Elk Grove with four seasons, although not as distinct or exaggerated as seasons east of the Sierra or in the midwest. Count on an "Indian Summer" most years with Fall arriving and the leaves changing in late October. Winter is characterized by high pressure producing many "balmy" days in the 60's F, but cool nights. Freezes occur less than ten nights a year, but inversion layers after recent rains can produce thick tule fog resulting in treacherous driving conditions causing major and sometimes deadly chain reaction collisions on area freeways. The fact that California drivers are notorious "tailgaters" doesn't help this situation at all. Elk Grove fog can burn off by noon, or it can persist around the clock, sometimes for days or weeks at a time.
Fortunately, Spring arrives early, sometimes in late February, bringing afternoon temperatures into the 70s and gradually warming to the 90's by May and, occasionally, to the low 100's by June. Total days at or above the century mark seldom exceed 15 annually. Most summer days are in the 90's.
Perhaps the most unique weather phenomenon in Elk Grove is the "Delta Breeze". We call it our natural air conditioner because, ironically, it occurs most frequently in late spring and summer when the weather is hot. Elk Grove is located less than 20 miles from the Sacramento River Delta, where the river empties into San Francisco Bay, leaving a natural "break" in the Coast Range. When warm air evaporates from the valley, cool marine air is pulled in through this gap from the ocean to take its place. The North Pacific is quite cold year-round, (about 55F), making these breezes refreshingly cool, if not gusty at times. It is not uncommon to rise in the morning following a blistering hot day to find the temperature in the mid-fifties.
Otherwise, Elk Grove gen

Elk Grove is quickly becoming crowded with an increase of crime, which far exceeds its growth rate --- people moving out before certain neighborhoods become blighted.
