Wellington,Fl to reinstate fluoridation!!! - 3/28/2017

Unfortunately, our recently elected Mayor Anne Gerwig along with the city council unexpectedly and rather quickly voted unanimously to reinstate the highly contentious topic of 'fluoridation' of the city water!! There is absolutely no shortage of fluoride in our community. Unfortunately, we will all be subject to this mass water fluoridation that is not monitored in the population. Fluoride is a known 'neurotoxin' and is linked to lowered IQ, cancer, diabetes, thyroid issues, arthritis, cancer, osteoporosis and more!!, -please be aware of this before you consider moving here. We can all purchase fluoride filters, but it speaks volumes about an entire city council that chooses to go against many members of the community.

Not all as it looks - 2/21/2011

We were NY transplants that moved to Wellington, FL after having lived in Southern Palm Beach County (Boca Raton and Delray Beach) for several years. Having 3 young children with medical issues we looked hard at schools, hospitals, and doctors in the area. At first we thought that we had moved to a place like my cousins lived in CT. The holiday parade that closed the main road in town, that residents would line the swales with blankets and chairs to watch. The yearly fireworks that folks would spend hours waiting for the start, just to get the best views! Mayberry it is not, people are phony and think they are better than anyone else there, they are not by nature kind to your neighbor for the most part. Wellington once it shows it's true self is more like Westchester County in NY. Full of people with to much money and those who pretend that they have money and don't. After a few years and renting a few houses, we purchased our dream home in the Pinewood area off the corner of Southern Blvd. & Wellington Trace. We purchased at the close to the height of the housing boom and paid way more than we should have. As far as the schools go, Wellington Elem. and Landings middle schools both did right by my children, but Wellington High School (my oldest graduated from there) was a different animal. The students seemed to run the place, yes there were a few great teachers, but if your child was within a gray area of education it took begging and threats of legal action to get what is required by law actually done. My family and I moved out of the state of Florida in 2002 and could not be happier.

Expensive West Palm Beach suburb - 7/4/2010

We moved west to Wellington from West Palm, hoping to leave the ghetto behind. Unfortunately it seems to be trickling in, and the questionable areas of Wellington continue to grow. There are people here who have way too much money, and then right around the corner from them is Section 8 housing. It was really nice when we first moved here about 5 years ago, and has progressively gone downhill, as the minority groups move in. Many crimes go unreported, so looking at the low crime statistics/rate may give you a false sense of security. It is really a shame, because there was a time that we thought we had moved to Mayberry. Just be aware, research the neighborhood thoroughly before you move, and lock up at all times. The "up" side? The village rec. programs are phenomenal, and there is a large christian population.

Writing about "LOXAHATCHEE" not Wellington, within - 11/15/2009

Hope people who r trying 2 find out about Loxahatchee will read this, I put it under Wellington because it was the closest city listed, leaving loxahatchee out of your listing makes it difficult! Loxahatchee is a great place to raise a family or retire. Schools are great, most A rated. It is basically quite besides the neighbor who may crank their music up on Weekends. Everyone out here basically does their own thing with most lots from 1.25 to 10 acres there is alot of privacy. People r polite and will usually help u if they can. A small % choose to keep 2 themselves & not be bothered. I feel safe here, living in the country u do have 2 b aware of your surroundings & lock up at night 2 b on the safe side. Cost of living isn't too high, the same for Palm Beach County. I have lived here over 20 years & it is a community u get comfortable in. We have alot of churches & store within 5 miles, our 1st gas station is going up within 10 miles in another shopping center (Publix)w/bank, restaraunt, etc..We also have an ampitheater w/concerts and art, craft, & gun shows and Lion Country Safari near by.

Safe but insincere - 7/27/2009

I lived in Wellington, FL as a child about 15 years ago, and it seemed like a nice, natural place at the time, with lots of trees and vacant lots. I have recently moved back, and found that it has become almost unrecognizable. The developers seem to have gone crazy (note the 43% growth rate since 2000), often building houses and commercial buildings on speculation, which then sit empty on what were one nice, natural wooded areas; particularly the commercial buildings. There used to be a 10,000-acre tree nursery with an adjacent strawberry farm, for example, and now it has been replaced by a trendy shopping mall with literally half-empty parking lots every time I drive by it. Almost everyone is from New York or New Jersey now, which makes it feel like Wellington itself has no identity other than being a colony for those states. There seems to be little cultural diversity, even though people of various ethnicities live here: everyone dresses in the popular Western styles, the places of worship are almost all churches, the few foreign restaurants and stores feel forced, and many of the people here from other countries speak better English than me. If anyone does try to stand out, they are sometimes, sadly, made fun of: I work next to an Asian restaurant with employees who are not as Westernized, and everyone else in my "professional" office makes fun of them, even though they bend over backwards for our Asian clients who speak perfect English and carry Coach purses. Everyone in Wellington drives an SUV or a shiny new truck, usually while on their cell phone or texting, and despite fairly low amounts of traffic, driving around town is still incredibly hazardous and nerve-racking. Most people don't speed, but I cannot count how many times I have almost been hit by someone drifting into my lane without a turn signal, or almost got into an accident trying to get around someone driving 15 miles under the speed limit on a busy road--in both cases, the drivers of those vehicles were almost exclusively on their cell phones. I know some people are perfectly capable of doing both at once, but I'm sure experiences like these are good material for stereotyping. Most everyone who is pulling out of a sidestreet also expects you to slam on your brakes for them so that they can pull out ahead of you, which I think is very rude, and in my neighborhood, there also happen to be a lot of teenagers who enjoy walking or biking across the road two feet in front of you while you are driving 45 mph. As far as culture goes, there is only one concert venue, which hosts only big-name acts that are primarily country or easy-listening 80's; no performing arts centers, no museums of any kind, no big colleges or college radio, and only one tiny movie theater (the next closest one is in neighboring Royal Palm Beach, off of the six-lane heckhole known as 441). Almost all the stores and restaurants are chains, usually the ones that take up the most possible land area (Super Walmart, SuperTarget, BJ's, Kohl's, Outback, Homegoods, Macaroni Grill, Starbucks), and what small stores exist are usually a little pricey (one exception is Wellington Florist, which I used for my wedding, and they were actually very kind and reasonably priced). Publix, the local grocery store for Florida, has three nearby locations, and while it is a very clean, well-organized store with decent variety, the prices are actually higher in their Wellington locations than they were in eastern Boca Raton, where I lived before returning here and which is usually considered an expensive area. Wellington is, however, like West Boca Raton: everyone is very concerned about wealth, beauty, material goods, keeping up with meaningless fads, and impressing the neighbors. If anyone here is sincere, able to think outside the box, or unconcerned with the latest celebrity gossip, they certainly do not talk about it in public. Speaking of wealth, even the apartments here are ridiculously expensive: do not expect to pay less than $1000/month for a tiny one-bedroom. In most neighborhoods, you can also be fined for growing your grass a few inches too tall, painting your house the wrong color, parking on your own streetside lawn (though parking in the actual STREET and blocking traffic is okay), or having bird poop on your mailbox. In short, for a geeky, untrendy, poor, vegetarian, history-loving environmentalist who doesn't listen to the radio or watch TV (like me), Wellington is not really an ideal place to live. The two positive things that I will say about the area are these: it is one of few places in eastern Florida where I would feel relatively safe walking or biking at night; and the area by the horse farms and the Aero Club, which consists of pretty houses with whole fields for yards, is a nice, quiet place to drive through and look at something other than suburban sprawl. If only the houses there didn't cost so much....

Good Value for the Money - 6/24/2008

Wellington is considered a higher end community in Florida, but with the housing collapse in Florida, it has become good value. Good sized homes in nice communities with A rated schools. There are plenty of events in the town such as free summer concerts, great parks and a terrific community center. The town is mostly young families, so if you have kids, it's probably the place you want to be in South Florida.

Wellington - 4/25/2007

Nice weather, but it's too hot to go out during the day. There are many house break-ins, many crimes go unreported, schools aren't great especially when compared to the northeast, and no sense of a community!

Great Place to Live--Great Place to Raise Kids - 5/30/2006

We moved to Wellington FL in 2003 from the midwest and love it. The weather is great. We love the melting pot of cultures all blended together. Everything is basically brand new and changing on a daily basis. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I would not want to live anywhere else.

DON'T MOVE HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE LOTS OF MONEY TO S - 3/23/2006

I HAVE LIVED IN FLORIDA FOR THE PAST 22 YEARS, THE COST OF HOUSING HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT THE NORMAL PERSON CAN NO LONGER AFFORD TO OWN A HOME. THE TRAFFIC AND CRIME ARE OUT OF CONTROL.YOU CAN EASILY SPEND AN HOUR JUST COMMUTING TO YOUR JOB, DR. APPOINTS, ETC. DON'T BELIEVE ANYONE WHO TELLS YOU THE WEATHER IS GREAT UNLESS YOU LIKE SWEATING 9 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR. GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE!
