Double Springs Alabama is mostly governed/controlled by the churches here and the desire to keep the town "quaint". On the past 5-6 years 2 of the main employer's here have either closed or moved to another city. The majority of the towns businesses are owned by the churches members are are utilized only as a tax shelter as they were been established many years ago and yet are never open! These are in our main downtown area...the alcohol sales issue was almost blocked by the churches here not considering the tax revenues. All " improvements have been in the downtown area and are new side walks and flowers. There is 1(one) restaurant, Mexican and a Jack's period. I as well as many others do not recommend double springs alabama as a place to visit. We have Smith lake for recreation but the town closed the public boat launches.
