I have lived here for a little over a year. I had imagined this would be a small town with some sense of community, but it seems entirely geared toward becoming a second rate tourist attraction.
Restaurants lean towards Midwest with a tropical twist, so they serve up large quantities of fried and previously frozen food. Even the Yelp photos of food at local Asian restaurants feature frozen french fries (no joke) and the Mexican restaurants have somehow managed to delete any spices and make their food bland.
Foley could easily replace NYC as "the city that never sleeps". No one here ever seems to sleep, and you won't either because of LOUD vehicles driving through the neighborhoods at all hours. There are not many highways, so the neighborhood streets are used as if they are an interstate, including semi-trailer traffic. Might as well live under a bridge on I-10.

Not ideal for young professionals - 11/11/2020
My husband and I have lived here for over a year and it is hands down my least favorite place I’ve ever lived. We are prior military and have lived in many incredible places. Keep in mind we are a young married couple (late 20’s/early 30’s). I’ll give you my personal and very subjective pros and cons.

Pros:
Close to beautiful beaches.
Beautiful sunsets.
Traffic isn’t bad compared to bigger cities.
Close to Pensacola and Mobile.
Plenty of major chain restaurants and shopping.
It is relatively safe here.
There are fun touristy things for children (Owa, putt-putt, go-carts, etc.).
Small town feel - there’s only one high school in town.
Cost of living is low. You can buy a big house for a decent price.
Unemployment is low.
Not a lot of sketchy areas or people.
I’ve never seen a homeless person here.

Cons:
The downtown has very little appeal after dark. Everything is closed by Read More

Returning to South Alabama soon it is awesome! - 5/5/2019
Lovely place to live for retirees however traffic is getting bad as it is quickly turning into quite a tourist destination. The city has a darling downtown area as well as many locally owned restaurants and coffee shops. People are on CPT (coastal people time) most are bubbly, friendly and fun. I will return to the area soon and finally retire. All of south Alabama is incredible.  Read More

Pet friendly neighborhood - 7/11/2015
Hi. Hubby and I are planning to move from Memphis TN down to the foley/daphne/Fairhope area. Now I spoke with the nice folks at BARC and was advised the number of dogs must follow leash laws. Ok we can do that. However I was advised to check with the neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods are anti dog??? Anyway we have three rescues, one in worst condition than the next
Can I get a heads up as to what areas we can purchase in
