My go to place - 4/16/2021
Owned a place there for 20 years and spend a few weeks each season there. Heading back in a few weeks! Lows: Spotty internet for work. Saturday traffic. Hurricanes. Highs: Amazing people, friendly place, great beaches, great food, shopping, not too crowded compared to many beaches even in the summer. Less attitude than many places, people are chill. Read More

Okay, where's the paradise? This is Paradise Islan - 5/24/2012
I know that there are a few people out there that would just as soon throw rotten tomatoes at me for saying what I’m about to say, but I hate, hate, HATE living in Gulf Shores. I have been living here for four years now and I cannot wait to leave. Here's why:

1) If you came here to fish, the fishing sucks. Well, unless you’re a commercial fisherman. If you’re just a regular fisherman, you can only catch a maximum of two fish and you have to go very far out into the ocean to finally catch any fish. Considering the cost to fish out in deep water, that’s very expensive fish. Unfortunately, due to the aftermath of the BP oil spill and the commercial fisheries, this ocean is almost completely fished out. Consequently, the fish you buy in the stores here is very expensive. The worst thing about Read More

Just because you enjoy your vacations here does not mean you will like living here. During the summer the town is full of tourists. During the winter it's full of snowbirds. Hurricanes are a threat every year. There is really nothing here other than the beach, but it is Read More

Welcome to Paradise! - 11/18/2009
We retired here from Houston 6 years ago. We found Gulf Shores by accident, as the fact that Alabama HAS a coast is not widely known! It is "land locked" unlike most other Gulf Coast towns. (No ocean highway, linking town to town, etc.) It has a family atmosphere, has a WONDERFUL infrastructure and facilities that would be found in much larger communities!!! Churches are small, friendly........one can get very involved in all aspects of the town. (The mayor is a neighbor!) We get about 15-17,000 "snowbirds" a year, who are very active in the community (fund raisers, etc.) and busy in the summer, BUT most of all a small tight knit community for ALL who live here, no matter where you are originated!! WE love Read More
