Anchorage is just like any other major city- it has problems with crime, alcohol, teen pregnancy. But its a very unique place with its own attitude. If you don't like it, leave. Nothing keeps you here. I don't like cities so Im not that fond of Anchorage but it has everything you need, almost everything you want, and its only 20 min away from Alaska. 120 miles of bike paths in the city, you can go fishing right downtown in ship creek, its a short drive to glaciers, rock climbing, wind surfing, 30 min away from a big ski resort, its close to everything. And its only dark in the winter. Its real bright and sunny for the long summer! Theres nothing depressing about 20 hours of daylight.
