Oro Valley is so much less than advertised - 9/22/2013
Some of these reviews are so inaccurate. Rentals for a 2-bedroom are closer to $1000/mo and up if you want to live in a safer neighborhood. People here are so intolerant and unfriendly. The climate is really nice but the people make it a really unpleasant place to live. I know many couples who are moving back to cold climates because they are so unhappy in Oro Valley. The quality of housing is poor... ostentatious layouts but poor quality construction, not designed for the climate. Licensed contractors are also untrained and dishonest... the licensing procedure does not include a proficiency test. Shockingly provincial. You will end up buying everything on the internet if you move here. Read More

Oro Valley, AZ - great place to live - 4/25/2010
I am a retiree from New York. I moved to Tucson two years ago. Now we are about to buy a home in Oro Valley, just north of Tucson. I love this area. The mountains surrounding Tucson and Oro Valley are beautiful. You can see them when you are driving up Oracle Road and from the parking lot of some of the well maintained shopping centers. All the stores and restaurants you will ever need are here. People are from all over the country. Most people are friendly and helpful. I think the beautiful weather makes people more pleasant. Home prices are reasonable. With all the senior citizens coming and going, you can still get a good deal. Taxes are not bad. The state parks are great for hiking and walking. I am a short sleeve person and haven't worn a heavy coat since the day I arrive here at the Phoenix airport. The most I have needed for a very brief period in winter was a light light jacket. I come from New York, so I know what cold weather is like and dampness. The weather is dry, so Read More

Good Place to Retire? - 3/11/2010
My husband is close to retirement. We lived in Scottsdale,AZ for 7 years in 80's and 90's, not sure if I'd want to retire there now though. What does Oro Valley (or other places in Az) have to offer? I'd cooler climates, but husband likes the desert. Thanks for input.
