Arizona's biggest small town . . . and riddled wit - 1/5/2008
Tucson is known as Arizona's biggest small town and it sure feels that way when you move here. Despite having close to a million people living in the area,it seems like everyone knows everyone. You get a sense that it is a tight knit community full of nice people. Not a day will go by that someone won't stop to let you get out into traffic.

The problem with Tucson is the enormous proliferation of drugs, and not just among the younger residents or lower income population. It seems like just about everyone has an issue with illegal drugs, whether they are an abuser, dealer, or negatively impacted by a family member struggling with addiction.

Sadly, this doesn't really hit you until after you've lived here a few years. When you drive around during the day, and take a good look at who is out and walking around, it is often adult males clearly under the influence of something.

And if you are are a single woman of any age looking to date, this is Read More

Tucson's winters - 12/19/2007
Being from Maine, almost anything is better then winter's notorious storms. For the most part we in Tucson have very mild winters. It does get chilly at night (end of December, 2007) and we have unusually cold nights down to freezing). Usually the nights in winter goes to the 40's and the days are in the 60's to 70's. Cold is the exception rather then the rule. We have about 10-15 days of cloudiness all winter.... our worse time of year for overcast skies. Snow extremely rare but there is a ski area on one of our beuatiful mountains only 25 miles away.

For the most part our winters are blue skies, mild short sleeve weather and watching everyone else freeze on TV.

Come on down and we will show you how to really enjoy Read More

I live in colorado springs. I am married with an autistic child. I am a black female disabled veteran ( I was in the Air Force) my husband is in the Army. We have lived here for 3 years And I love the scenery but it is hard to find jobs and the rental and housing is sky high. I am an army bratt! I started school in Germany and graduated high school in Hawaii I know expensive and this is it. When our son was in kindergarten I picked him up from school instead of my husband and the next day the kids Jumped him.they said he was not yellow white he is yellow black and used the N-word. I was shocked my husband looks mixed or latino and my son looks just like him. I sometimes get those attitudes when my husband and I go out to eat at some places such as Briargate area, Woodland Park, Littleton, etc. I am surprised I only lived here previously when my Read More

Hmm, Tucson... - 11/24/2007
I moved here from Philadelphia about a 2 years ago and I really like Tucson for its cultural heritage, natural landscape and of course, gracious weather. When I moved here, some racist fella told me that Tucson was the most dangerous city in the United States....I don't think so. Every city has a few crazies, and has crime, large or small so, as far as crime, do your research and ask people who live here. Again, I moved here from Philadelphia where people are killed or robbed daily. I respect the native Tucsonian's and I'm glad to be here. I don't feel threatened by police officers, the native Tucsonian's welcomed me from day one of living here and it was one of the best decisions I've made. I have no complaints about Read More

Climate is great, for about 7 months of year - 10/23/2007
Tucson's climate is good for a large portion of the year. There are many out-door activities and nature activities available. It is a university town (University of AZ), and when I first came here buying a home was reasonably priced. That has changed. Prices have nearly doubled since 2001. My husband and I are looking for a place to spend that 5 months when Tucson is, shall we say, uncomfortably sizzling Read More

Listen ALL OF YOU - 10/10/2007
I am a TRUE Tucson resident, born and raised. I attended school there, served in the army in marana, and am of Hispanic and Caucasian background, so I know about the racial aspects of Tucson. Tucson is the best place in the world, and I am sick and tired of everyone moving to Arizona from God knows where to either visit or live. You come with your high expectations, stingy wallets and especially never ending complaints. I agree with whomever said "If you dont like Tucson, just leave." I remember when Tucson was a perfect sized large town as a teenager, now everyone and their grandmother wants to meve here, and then complain and blame the lifetime residence about how "THEIR" Tucson should be. Tucson is special because the racial demographics are unlike the majority of white subarban blah cities and counties across the United States. Tucson is not perfect, but people are defined by their faults. Yes, it has some crime and congestion and higher housing prices but that is because Read More

It wears you down - 10/9/2007
When I first moved to Tucson from the Southeast I thought it was spectacular! The flora and fauna are so different that it felt like being on the moon. The Sonoran desert is very divers and not barren at all. The panoramic views and big sky make Monsoon season a spectacle that I look forward to every year. I reveled in the low humidity and absence of gnats and mosquitos.

While it is true that high temperatures are more bearable when the humidity is low (Its a dry heat), over the years I have found the summers to be more and more unbearable, partially because they are so long. Its right toasty from mid April through late September. One summer we had something on the order of 145 consecutive days of 100+ degree weather. It becomes oppressive and drains one's energy. I hibernate in the Read More

Tucson and Arizona - 10/7/2007
My wife and I live in Seattle and are growing tired of the gray days of the Northwest! While jobs are good here (I am in accounting/finance and she is an acupuncturist) we are wanting to move somewhere with more sun! Both of us enjoy the simpler lifestyle and Seattle is just too busy, with too many people. We enjoy being outdoors, without having to put on pants and a jacket.

While we know there is no perfect place, we are curious to know what Arizona is like.  Read More

If you don't like Tucson, please leave... - 9/8/2007
I've lived and grew up in the Midwest, years in NY, mid-south and south, Kansas, CA... and overseas in Germany and South West Asia. That is my prospective... so if there are those who hate Tucson so much because of schools, the weather, Mexicans, price of homes, legality of the 2nd amendment, whatever... LEAVE. Why would you ever voluntarily live in a place you detest so much? My suggestions:
-hate the schools? Educate your own kid, genius.
-Hate the heat? Move to North Dakota.
-Hate the overpriced homes in Tucson? Buy something in SF or NYC and move
-Hate the cost of living? Rent. Its the cheapest market in the western US
-Hate that citizens can bear arms? Move to North Korea
-Hate the crime? Move to North Korea
-Hate the cost of Health Care? Move to Cuba (its free there)
-Hate the trafic? Move to Amish country

The point? Just move. It will make Tucson so much better when you leave (less demand for housing, more money for Read More
