Expectations LOW! - 6/21/2007
Yuma has the lowest expectations of probably any city in America. Nearly every public service (restaurants, grocery stores, malls, etc.) is staffed by illegal immigrants. The general attitude in Yuma is people do not want to work, so I am surprised that there are no jobs available. When you go into stores, the shelves look like the place was just robbed, yet the employers take no initiative to fire the employees and hire someone who is willing to actually work for 8 hours instead of just standing behind the cash register giving consumers a poor attitude. Everyone in this town is satified with the bare minimum. In fact, more often than not, the bare minimum seems like it's too much for people to handle. There are a lot of good things about this area, but all of that stands in the shadows of the many issues that hold Yuma Read More

Yuma SUCKS!!!!! - 11/18/2006
I have lived here for about 12 years total! Getting a job here is really BAD! You have to know spanish just to get a job here in your own country. The people here that come from Mexico expect us to help them out and to learn their language!! In realty this city is already Mexico!!!!!! Keep in mind that I'm not racist...all I want is to get a job and live happy in my own country without learning spanish like its mexico!!!! Its extremely low class over here!! I plan on moving to Phoenix and they dont have this problem over there...trust me, I have friends over in Phoenix and they tell me everything!!! So if anyone plans on moving to Yuma...goodluck and I hope you know spanish, or you'll be screwed for Read More

Language / culture clash - 9/20/2006
Unlike other immigrants to the USA who may keep to their native language and culture...yet attempt to assimilate into the American culture and learn and speak english. For the vast majority of spanish speaking central American immigrants here in the desert southwest that is not so. So if you are NOT spanish speaking your ability to find work is cut 50%. Wherever you work or where you shop, the spanish language is spoken heavily. It is the first sign of the level of arrogance of the spanish speaking central Americans. So be forwarned. Also the Yuma border sector is #1 for illegal border crossings. So please come to Yuma, and help increase the number of english speaking Read More

Over rated! - 7/23/2006
I have resided in Yuma for the past 12 years, and the time has come to leave.
Yuma has become the most over rated city I have ever seen. The cost of living is rediculous and in no way justifies itself. Its extremely hot from June until September! (I mean you can die out here). And with winter brings twice the population comprised of produce workers, and snowbirds. Housing is priced twice what its worth, and the border is becoming crisis level. And unless you speak spanish, or have a profession, forget about a decent job. Big time "good 'ol boy" system here! (old white money, and hispanic management). So unless you fit into one of the two groups, I would avoid moving here.
Thanks California, for infecting Read More
