Benton is not Little Rock - 9/11/2013
Benton is a great place to live and raise a family. Before you give the previous review too much credibility, you might want to consider another perspective. I've lived in Benton almost my entire life. The city has grown over 30% in the last 10 years. Our public schools are rated in the top 7% of all public schools nationally by US News and World Report. This is a direct result of the citizens investing over $30 million in renovations to their public schools. The city has also invested millions into road improvements and a Civic Center which is already sold out for the year and doesn't open the doors until October. We have one of the most active Chamber of Commerce organizations in the region and a strong business community that reflects suburban life. We are home to several Class 6A State Champion athletic teams and the Benton High School Cheerleaders just recently won the National Cheerleading Championship. Not exactly a "backward" community.

Don't Bother - 7/9/2013
Benton, and Arkansas in general, is a pretty backwards place.
I have lived here all my life and these are a few of the things I've learned.
People here are extremely conservative and judgmental. Most Arkansans love Jesus but hate your guts. Especially if you are gay, a Democrat,non-protestant or non-white.
There is little to no opportunity here. Even with a degree a high paying job will be hard to find. (BTW 50,000 is considered a really good salary) Because most of the residents are xenophobic, if they don't know ya, they won't hire ya! Think minimum wage for 80-90% of jobs. Also this is a right to work state so unions are useless.
If you do have money to buy something don't forget the tax. Sales tax and income tax are higher than the national average. The only places to shop are big chain stores and metro areas are far apart, so expect a drive. (Gas is NOT cheap either.)
Housing IS cheap but the housing is mostly crap. Lots of mobile homes, meth Read More

Nothing Worth Saying - 7/15/2010
Nobody leaves a comment about Benton because it is such a forgettable place! Very unattractive with nothing to do and nothing to boast about except that it isn't far from Little Rock and Hot Springs. Camouflage is the favorite fashion statement and the start of deer hunting season is the town's favorite Read More
