El dorado ain't ****. This town is boring as hell and it ain't **** to do, so everything becomes repetitive. The only thing people do here is party, and everybody know everyone. The police are only around when you don't need them. You have to drive all the way out of town to get the best ****. The El dorado promise was the only thing good about this town, but now it's gone. The schools are **** and you can't have no fun. Getting a job here is awful especially if you're a teenager still in highschool. The whole town is a ****ing swamp, due to horrible flooding. A lot of homophobia and conservatives who think they're better than everyone, because they're "Christan". A lot of racism too. You here white people say the n-word like water falling out of their mouth. The only good thing about this town is we haven't been hit by a tornado since the 90's.Read More

El Dorado - 9/9/2009
I recently moved to El Dorado and overall I like living here. If you are from a larger city (or young and single) you might have a difficult time adjusting to "small town and slow paced" living. It is a very Southern culture and is really more like living in Northern Louisiana than Arkansas (ELDO is only 11 miles from the Louisiana border). It is a lot like HBO's True Blood (minus the vampires). The food is great if you like Southern items like BBQ, fried catfish, sweet tea, and chicken fried steak. Also some great Mexican food. The shopping here is almost non-existent...so most people have to drive to Monroe, Little Rock, Shreveport, or Texarkana to get to a mall. The downtown has been renovated and does offer lots of boutique shopping and neat little eateries. I can't tell you much about nightlife because we have younger kids and are long-gone from the bar scene (though I suspect it is not all that great). There are a couple places on the Square downtown that seem like they Read More

Move to Arkansas from Florida - 10/2/2008
I like small town America. El Dorado, Arkansas encompasses that ideal. We moved from Tampa, Florida where the crime and unemployment was running rampant. My husband found a job that he thinks will sustain us at least for a while. Its beautiful and rustic here. We're getting used to the quiet little by little. Big cities are nice with their culture and entertainment but these days the prices to enjoy them are outrageous. I have a suggestion for the person who wanted to get away; she might try going to the casinos in Louisiana or Mississippi. Tunica, Mississippi has a casino. I don't know how far she is willing to travel. Just some helpful suggestions. My family lives in Biloxi, MS and they are recovering from the hurricanes. But many of the casinos have reopened. I just like Arkansas because its quiet for the most part and there aren't crimes being committed all around one regardless of the Read More
