A quaint and charming village and a world class be - 4/18/2008
Considering the amount of crime throughout the world today, Capitola is exceptionally safe and livable. It is one of the few places anywhere where we feel free to allow our Grandchildren to roam about. It is a small beach village with only 10,000 residents, and a police department that has one of the most rapid response times of any place in the US. Sure, you might find a disgruntled person now and again, but from my point of view as a world traveler this is truly a splendid place to live. No automobile is needed, you can walk everywhere. Outdoor door cafe's on the beach, shops, art galleries, markets, coffeehouses, live entertainment, a wharf and great beach are all within easy walking distance. Yes, it is expensive. However, all places of beauty, that are culturally interesting and safe to walk in are expensive the world Read More

once was lovely - 11/6/2007
now is very crime infested rat hole. I lived there for 11 yrs. husband was born and raised there. We moved due to the crime from the mexican mafia gang crime. The police department told us they would step up patrols in our neighborhood after a string of robberys and shooting and one rape after a 2 week period. The reason given was they were to busy with the patrols in the "Higher end" neighborhoods. The median home price on my street was only 800k, They would only patrol up the hill in the 1.5 mill neighborhoods. I will never go back again..
