Small, quiet, but only 20 minutes in any direction to large cities. Houses are beautiful, especially those near the river bed! I’ve never seen it over flow, even in the strongest El Niño. Your more at risk owning a home near or on a mountain with annual fires and mudslide. Used to be very Hispanic but with all these new homes we are seeing many races of people from many cultural backgrounds (mostly professionals with young kids.) As for gangs, the North side has something of a small dwindling group of kids that are in that environment, but as a resident and local business owner I’ve never noticed anything. No gettos here, maybe a small group of older houses. Very little in the way of apts. The town is growing and for the most part is very attractive and practical for a safe family environment Weather is Mediterranean, actually very little rain. Feels like the biggest small town in California. We are close to Ojai and Santa Barbara too. Very nice, wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in Read More

Fillmore is a great little town. Big enough to do all your shopping here from groceries to building supplies. Bigger needed items can be found 25 min from Fillmore in (Ventura, CA. Bigger city pop. 150,000) Fillmore population is around 19,000 people. It seems most of that population is Hispanic. You can drive down to the store on Central Ave and count the Non-Mexicans on one hand.
Jobs here are not abundant. Most new stores that open here go out of business quickly. The city is planning to build more low income housing for all the Mexicans in town. Citizens are concerned because it WILL turn into another ghetto scene. The town has low traffic, unless its rush hour on highway 126 that runs through town. People here are nice, but if you plan to live here you should learn Spanish. It seems Fillmore has grown a large percentage (Hispanics are up 11%) Non-Hispanic growth is actually -.91 percent. Weather is nice year round. Almost too much sun and nice weather! Sometimes you get Read More

I moved to Fillmore with my family when I was 13 and after college I moved back there for a couple of years with my husband. So, here's the good, the bad, and the ugly on the place...It's located in the beautiful Heritage Valley and is only about an hour north of LA. Agriculture is a big part of Fillmore life since the Heritage Valley is a big citrus-growing valley. The weather is pretty nice, and the nights are always cool, even in summer. In the spring it smells like orange blossoms all over the valley. That- I love. It's a small town and with it comes the potentially annoying small-town things. The schools are not great, but that is more due to a lack of funding than bad teachers. There are nicer, newer houses, but quite a few that are pretty nasty and some that should just be condemned. The main problem I see with Fillmore is the gang activity. The authorities work very hard to get it under control, but it is very hard to manage. As a result, there's quite a bit of Read More
