Lompoc is a small city located in California's Santa Barbara County. With a population of just over 44,000, it is known for its agricultural industry and close proximity to the Vandenberg Air Force Base. The city's climate is mild and Mediterranean, making it a desirable place to live for those who enjoy outdoor activities and a relaxed lifestyle.

Lompoc is a charming city with a small-town feel that offers a great quality of life. According to many user reviews on BestPlaces.net, the overall consensus is that Lompoc is a wonderful place to call home. One reviewer, John from Lompoc, describes it as "a hidden gem on the central coast of California." He goes on to praise the city's beautiful views and friendly community.

Another user, Sarah from Ohio, moved to Lompoc and says, "I fell in love with this city the moment I arrived." She loves the slower pace of life and the abundance of outdoor activities available. Sarah also notes that the cost of living is reasonable, making it a great option for those on a budget.

However, as with any place, there are some drawbacks to living in Lompoc. One reviewer, Jake, points out that "the city can feel isolated and lacking in certain amenities." Probably one of the worst small towns you could li - 6/21/2010
I saw a lot o other reviews for Lompoc. But few of them really explained why it is so hard to live here. Here's the things you REALLY need to know. Rent is generally cheap in comparison to most areas on the central coast, but it is not significantly cheaper than neighboring Santa Maria which has far more jobs, but you will be competing with a VERY large primarily hispanic population. There are only three good options for employment in the area. As another review said, one is the base, another the federal penitentiary, and the casino/resort in the nearby Santa Ynez Valley. With 14% unemployment, the competition is fierce for the relatively few jobs. Apart from that, the majority of businesses in the town are food service liquor stores and a few retail stores. Most of the retail businesses that have tried to establish roots in the community have left within 5 years. The majority of businesses are local small business owners who employ usually less than 20 people. Those few jobs tend to Read More

Lompoc's zip code is 93436. It's population is close to 60,000. A home on average is $200,000. I was born there. crime is high with a federal pen. within city limits. Prisons bring the scumb of the world to your town. Crips, Bloods, drugs, street walkers...think again about this being a nice place. It's a nice place to be Read More

Crime in Lompoc - 2/15/2010
There is a lot of crime in Lompoc, California. Not only crimes such as drugs, gangs, murder, shootings, etc, but a lot of property crimes such as people storing tons of junk cars, trucks, boats, motor homes, campers, etc on their front lawns which is illegal and makes the neighborhood look terrible. They store this junk on the streets, too. And they store basketball hoops in the streets and they play basketball all day long in the streets with their children and grandchildren. This is not only illegal and a danger to people but it very annoying to hear the basketballs bouncing all day long and everyone running around and screaming and yelling. People have a lot of other violations such as fences that are too high and sheds that are too close to the property line, etc. They park in red zones and on the wrong side of the street and there are hundreds of vehicles with no front license plate which is illegal and no one seems to do anything about any of this. The police and everyone else Read More

Little isolated town - 11/25/2009
I am not surprised to see no one has wrote about this town I currently live in. I do not have family in this town so I believe that I am bias against the town. It is a very family oriented place to live. Many parks, mostly small family owned business's, with little to barely nothing for a someone who is single in their twenties. Beautiful weather hardly ever rains with a nice breeze off the pacific. Just wish it was not so far away from more civilization. Very very slow pace town, people take their time to do Read More

Lompoc, California - 2/12/2009
Lompoc is a small town with very few decent paying job opportunities if you're not employed with Vandenberg Air Force Base or the contractors that provide support for the base. The city also seems to be a haven for people who used to live and work in Santa Barbara, but can't afford the high cost of living in Santa Barbara anymore-many Lompoc residents commute to Santa Barbara for work and return to Lompoc at night.

The city also seems to push away a lot of potential growth opportunities just so that certain members of the community can maintain the city's small-town image. In addition, a large portion (20-25%) of the city relies on public assistance (i.e illegal aliens from Mexico and other central american countries).

On the positive note, it does have a small town atmosphere that is peaceful if you stay away from the low-income neighborhoods where illegal immigrants congregate. In addition, gas and rent prices are generally cheaper than the Read More

Beautiful temperate climate. - 2/10/2009
I've lived in this area my entire 49 years and have heard the same basic weather report for about 90% of it. It goes something like this:
Night and morning low fog and clouds clearing to the 70s (winter, fall, spring)and to the 80s (summer). Yes it has caused difficulty with drought in years past it isn't a consistent problem but can be serious when it does occur. Read More

Central Coast Climate - 9/19/2008
The weather here in Lompoc is pleasantly mild. During the fall season (September through November) is typically warm until about noonish. There is a very dependable ocean breeze which sweeps in from Surf Beach around 12:30pm every day, like clockwork. Because we are no more than a couple of miles from the sea, we have a cooler range of temperature throughout the day. Around this time of year and into winter, the nights are chilly but not too much so. You can bundle up in your favorite coat and walk up Nob Hill to enjoy the beautiful decorations the more wealthy put up every Christmas. During the summer, Jalama Beach is a terrific place to go to cool off, catch some rays, and enjoy delicious food. Plus, it's only a very short drive down highway 1 south, and a gorgeous scenic 14 mile drive through the hills surrounding Lompoc. All in all, Lompoc is a climatically wonderful place to live, especially if you like to beat the Read More
