Mean, Shallow Town and People - 1/29/2017
I grew up in this town and when I moved away - out of CA, living all across the US - I could not believe how much kinder people were in every other state and city that I lived but Red Bluff. I enjoyed living elsewhere so much that I never returned accept for very brief visits to family as I was reminded of the small minded, shallow people that make up the town. God Help You if you ever needed anything. You basically have snob and snobbier which is hysterical because as a community if you could even call it that in my day, they had nothing to be proud of. And if you grow up in the lower income bracket, you are really screwed. The teachers and community at large discriminate against the poor since there is no color to pick on they have to pick on something after they brutalize and mutilate the cows andy other things that moves out on the hills. Girls, Boys, doesn't matter. They breed em young to judge, hate, compete in nasty ways. What a mean, vile little town. Only other place that was Read More

Family friendly town - 3/28/2015
I grew up in this beautiful little town. It is located on the Sacramento River with the river coming right through the town. I don't live there anymore but have family there who I still visit often. It has been hit fairly hard by the down turn in the economy however, it still manages to be a great little town to live in. The people are warm and inviting. Yes, it is on the conservative side, especially for California, and it is a cowboy town. They have a wonderful rodeo in May each year, along with a parade, which is such fun for the whole family. Living here you can also enjoy a close drive to snow skiing in the winter with Mount Shasta and Mt Lassen ski resorts, water skiing in the summer with Lake Shasta and Whiskeytown a short drive to the north, and lots of great places to go fishing. Unfortunately because of the water crisis in California the Sacramento river that runs through the town has had its water levels greatly reduced. You can still jet ski, float down the river, and ski Read More

Yeh Haw!!! I ran faster out of there...than my ho - 4/18/2013
Red Bluff,,, I was forced to move there when I married my husband. I begged to move to a real Californian town, such as San Diego. But No... Red Neck had to move home to Mamma! Red bluff has never had an economy the entire 15 years I was sentenced there. 38, and 47 year olds are your grocery store clerks. Now that says something right there. Housing and land were incredibly cheap. Families from the Bay Area moving up north in droves. Most sold their homes for ridiculous prices, and bought extremely low. After three to four years of living off the sale of their homes, these Bay Area folk are in some serious financial trouble. NO JOBS! Property dropped to ridiculous levels, more than 50% loss in most cases.

So if you have any kind of intelligence, class, style, sophistication, and if you are educated... This is not the place for you.

if low income, unsteady work, car parts in front yard, are your thing... than you will fit right on in.

Towns in Trouble - 8/30/2010
This small central valley town is in deep yogurt. house prices are collapsing at a unbelievable pace and people are leaving. The foreclosures just keep coming with no end in sight. This area, like many in califorina, saw real estate maddness take over the heart and soul of the town. I moved here because prices were very low for a California town in a scenic area. My house Tripled in price from 1999 to 2006 it has since fallen 50% and it looks like it might go all the way back to 1999 prices. Of course, when people get that far underwater on their homes and lose a job they just hit the road and that's what is happening.
With a voting record of 70% plus for GW Bush both times you can imagine the mentality of the town. It is ultra conservative to the point of the ridiculous and if you're not that way don't bother moving here. Schools are improving but the social issues of the town are quit bothersome to say the least. You can find a great deal on a house right now, but I wouldn't Read More

Red is the operative word - 8/25/2009
I'm a native Californian and have lived in or traveled the entire state. Red Bluff is one of most odd places in the entire state. I've lived here 10 years and I'm still considered a new-comer and an outsider. This town is like having a little bit of Arkansas right in the middle of California. The mentality here is ultra-conservative with an alcoholic twist. This town voted 70% for George Bush in both elections. I had my Obama yard sign stolen out of my yard during the last election. People here are nice, but don't talk about Obama, the environment, or gun control (You just might get shot.) There is a permanant under-class that lives in this town. It isn't uncommon to see a 47 year-old great-grandma! There is a permanant wealthy-class of landowners and ranchers and farmers. The sad thing is the working class or middle-class is small and shinking.
30 minutes out of town on three sides and you're in God's Country. Lassen National Park is an easy 45min. drive. The scenery on a Read More

Heartless, Selfish People - 6/29/2009
I was born & raised here but have since lived all over California and I've never come across another town with so many heartless, selfish, uncaring people.
There are, of course, some caring people here but they are few and far between.

What you will find quite a lot of, however, are housewives who volunteer at churches & such to make it look like they care.
In fact their only real concern is impressing & outdoing other housewives in their social/gossip circles.

Many of the people here come from ranching families and they grew up around animal abuse & slaughter and it appears to have taken a very real toll.
I've been back here for about five years now and have found that pretty much all of my old friends have become cold & calloused and many have taken over their family's ranching businesses.

On top of the abuse and slaughtering that goes on at their ranches, some of them also regularly go out into the woods to kill animals for Read More

Getting By in Red Bluff - 9/7/2008
Red Bluff is a lovely town - just read the signs! They say "A Great Place to Live". (I reserve the right to discount that this is true when the temperature is over 110!) My family and I have been here 24 years, which at one time qualified us as newcomers and to some, still does. We feel it's home. Our life has not been champagne and caviar since we've been here. There were times we eked out an existence - and I know some who still do. Jobs are not sparse in Red Bluff, but they are not plentiful. At least, not those that make a decent living. But we do have some higher-paying industries - several State offices, the WalMart Distribution Center and several mills. If you are willing to work hard or develop a skill set, one can do reasonably well.
I know a young family who has chosen for Mom to stay at home. The husband works in groceries - they do struggle with things like insurance and don't have a lot of luxuries - at times, they even want for the basics - but with Read More
