What BestPlaces Users Say about Redding
Redding, California is a city located in the northern part of the state and is known for its picturesque landscapes and outdoor activities. It has a population of approximately 91,000 residents and is home to popular attractions such as the Sundial Bridge and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
John, a resident of Redding, shared on BestPlaces.net that "the natural beauty of this place is unmatched. I love being able to go hiking or fishing in just a short drive from my house." This sentiment was echoed by another user, Amanda, who stated that "the proximity to nature is definitely a plus for me. The abundance of parks and trails make it a great place for outdoor enthusiasts."
However, not all reviews were positive. Tom, a former resident, mentioned that "the cost of living is quite high for what this city offers. The job market is also limited, making it difficult to find employment." Similarly, Sarah, a current resident, expressed her concerns about crime in the area, stating "there are definitely some safety concerns here, and I wouldn't recommend walking alone at night."
In conclusion, while Redding, California offers stunning natural scenery and recreational opportunities, it may not be the most affordable or safest place to live. However, as Amanda put it, "every city has its pros and cons, and in the end, it's about finding what works for you."

Redding Summers - 8/12/2008
I am not originally from Redding, but have lived here for several years now. I find the heat in the summer here to be swelteringly hot. Think Las Vegas or Phoenix and back it off a little. Combined with the smoke from the fires this summer (08) it has been miserable. I am a returning adult student and wonder if I want to finish school here or head elsewhere. Lived in Portland in the mid 80,s for just shy of two years and loved it. Now Portland is even a better place to live.

Shasta and Whiskeytown lakes - 6/21/2008
Within 15 minutes from downtown Redding you can be to either the very large (and great for boating, caping, mountain biking, hiking, Fishing, swimmming and more) Shasta lake or the smaller yet beautiful Whiskeytown lake( kayaking, sailboating, hiking, swimming, boating, camping, etc..). Mt. Shasta (great ski and snowboard park available), Mt. Lassen and Castle Crags are all within an hours drive.. Not to mention the local Rivers and creeks that are throughout the area. we also have the gorgeous Sundial Bridge, Turtle bay museum and much more...The weather can be hot in the summer so take advantage of what the area has to offer & cool it down. I love living and enjoying my family of 5 in the Reding

Redding-coming along! - 6/5/2008
Redding, like the rest of the central valley, has hot summers. However, these summers do not have the humidity found in some other areas of the country. Redding has their own power generation company, which allows electricity to be cheaper than some other larger metropolitan areas of California. Let's not forget that Redding is convenient to some pretty spectacular scenery, not to mention not far from Lake Shastina and Lake Shasta and a bunch of other recreational areas. To the person who said they can't wait to get back to the "Bay Area" because Redding is too conservative and not "multicultural" enough for them-open your mind!!!Learn about what goes on inside someone's head rather than what the color of their skin is. You sound very prejudiced. Multicultural doesn't tell you what is inside a person's head nor what kind of person they are.
This same person seems to think that Redding is "too conservative" for them, yet they give to evidence of this or any

I don't recommend moving to Redding by choice. - 10/18/2007
I visit Redding on a regular basis for business and I'm always relieved to get back to the Bay Area after a trip there. The weather is fairly uninviting year round. It's either too hot, too cold or raining. There is a severe lack of culture and multiculturalism there. The political sway is way too conservative for my taste. There is a fairly big lack of higher education in most of the adults I have met there. The nightlife is nonexistant except for really seedy bars and a casino. Even after traveling up there for 5 years, I have yet to find a upper end restaurant in town. As far as shopping goes, there is the Shasta Mall. It has improved but it's still pretty run of the mill and

making a living - 7/30/2007
Redding is great for young couples or singles. We have Shasta college and Simpson university. However, trying to support a family of 4 in Redding has proven difficult for my family and many others. Jobs here do not pay well. I would suggest finding the job you want BEFORE you move here and be aware that working out of town in a big possibility. I am also not impressed with the public school system here(K-8). On a positive note, there are endless outdoor activities to participate in. I also enjoy the fact that we have a good selection of stores and don't have to fight through traffic to get to

River Runs Throught It - 4/5/2007
Redding is a river city. You can't drive any where without seeing the beautiful Sacramento River. We have lots of trees here and although we do get scorching...scorching summers we are green and unlike the desert do cool down in the evenings. You can grow anything here from citrus, peaches, lovely and varied trees; crepe myrtle, magnolia, redwoods, Japanese maple, trident maple, Queen Palms, etc. The flowers range from clematis, roses, bouginvilla (sp) mandevilla (sp) and all in between. We have a nice airport and from here you can travel anywhere. Friendly people (which I've always thought depends on you).
Housing is not inexpensive but certainly not San Francisco. We are within a stones throw from Oregon so it's a nice drive to have lunch and come back. My favorite is the winter; not freezing, wonderful rains. It's a good

I'm 26 yrs old and love Redding.... - 3/12/2007
.... I've lived here since I was four. Yes I belive most the elementry schools need some improvement, but we do have some good ones, we have two community collages plus Chico State Universty is only an hour away. YES,
The summers are HOT , and we rarley ever get snow but I still love it. Just make sure you have CENTRAL heat and Air... also A/C in the car is a must!!! We have beauitful Mount Shasta (an hr north with a ski park) and Mt. Lassen (an hour east) both full of snow in the winter and active volcanos. (We also have made cuting our Christmas trees from both a great family traditions) We have two nice lakes (Shasta & Wiskeytown) to help cool us off in summer. The Pacific coast is about 3-4 hours west (depending on how you drive the windy road).
Redding also has Sacramento River the flows through town and offers several walking trails. One hot tourist spot is Turtle Bay Musuem (great for families) and The Sundial Bridge that allows you to walk accross
