What BestPlaces Users Say about San Diego

San Diego, California is a popular city located along the Pacific coast known for its sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and diverse culture. It is a highly desirable place to live, with a growing population and a strong economy. However, like any city, it also has its drawbacks. In order to gain a well-rounded perspective on what it's like to live in San Diego, we will summarize comments and reviews from various users on BestPlaces.net.

According to John from San Diego, "Living in San Diego has been a dream come true. The weather is perfect year-round and there's always something fun to do. However, the cost of living can be high, especially when it comes to housing." This sentiment is echoed by Sarah, who states, "I love the laid-back vibe of San Diego and the beach lifestyle. But the traffic and high cost of living can be overwhelming at times." On the other hand, Mark shares a different perspective, saying, "San Diego is the perfect balance of city life and beach living. The job opportunities are abundant and the people are friendly. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else." Lastly, Lisa adds, "I've lived in San Diego my whole life and it's definitely a special place. The only downside is the traffic and the influx of tourists in certain areas." Overall, it seems the majority of users enjoy living in San Diego, but acknowledge the high cost of living and traffic as potential drawbacks.

WONDERFUL City - 2/3/2007
The review by Simran is the complete opposite of what I experienced in San Diego. I've never met so many people from so many different backgrounds. The cultural diversity is BEAUTIFUL. I have friends there who were African American, Hispanic, Latino, Philippino (did I spell that right??), Asian, Arab, Egyptian, British, Polish...I could go on and on. It was great and guess what? They all treated me like I was a human, not a race. Where ever Simran was, perhaps in a drug induced stupor, he was probably a racist himself... I can't imagine a place more accepting of so many people. I miss it terribly. Why did I leave? I missed snow...bummer...  Read More

Opportunity - 1/29/2007
I'm a Kansas City person, born and raised. Moved to San Francisco in 1976, then to San Diego in 1978. Nearly everyone I know here is from someplace in the midwest. The real estate prices were high in 1979 - $135,000 for a new home. Compared to anywhere else, it seemed prohibitive. But I decided to pull up stakes after a promotion to Pittsburgh and bring what possessions I could fit in a trailer the 3,000 miles west, or so. Worked in San Francisco for 2 years before wanting to go where the beaches were white and the sun was warm, so moved to San Diego. Started out in a tiny apartment that was wonderful. Just to be near the beach was fantastic. Worked hard, moved up, and made my million - which surprisingly, isn't as big a deal as it used to be. But dealing everyday with the people that comprise California, still the pioneers that have taken the leap to live where they want, can't be beat. California continues to have a gold rush. Because it continues to attract those willing Read More

No impressed by San Diego - 1/29/2007
Moved to San Diego some weeks ago, and I am, so far, unimpressed by it.

I have lived in several US cities and have travelled to many cities in the world, with my favorites being NYC, where I lived for several years, as well as Philadelphia.

The good I have seen so far: Though these days have been for the most part cool, other times I have visited SD the weather has been beautiful, and the days clear and bright. I like the hilly terrain to look at (though it can be a challenge if you are used to a flat grid road system). I like the fact that drivers respect the pedestrians very much. And also I like the fact that there are many beaches nearby, as well as Mexico. I like the fact that the airport is so close and easy to get to. I like the fact that there is public transportation, and I think some of the parks are very nice. I like the fact that the zoo is surrounded by a great public park.

The bad so far: San Diego feels like a small town or Read More

Every morning I thank my lucky stars that I live i - 12/29/2006
I don't agree with the criticisms I've seen on this website.

I migrated to San Diego from Washington, DC, 12 years ago, after taking early retirement. No one disputes that the climate is near-perfect, and the beauty of the landscape is breath-taking. The ocean, the mountains, and the desert are all a short drive away, as is Mexico, with its own special allure. Also, no one denies that housing is horrendously expensive and finding a good job can be a challenge. But for someone with resources already in place -- a job lined up, or retirement income, or a business income that can be counted on -- San Diego can't be beat.

Here are some things that I especially like: the friendly people, plenty of cultural events, and the ease of getting around. A decision to go someplace can be made at the last minute, and it's not a huge challenge to get there or find a parking place. I've found it very easy to make friends in San Diego. With out-of-town visitors, it takes 4 Read More
