Love the views at every turn along the coast areas of San Francisco--Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Bay Bridge, the open ocean. Feel like you are living in a postcard. Cost of living, though...hmmm...that is tough. To buy is prohibitive, renting is possible and great if you can get a rent-controlled apt. A walkable city, especially if you are in a "neighborhood" (one that has all the amenities: post office, produce market, restaurants, park).
