I love it here... - 9/4/2020
Ive been here my whole life. I can't imagine living anywhere else but crime is definitely going up. Blame it on add another prison i feel 1 was plenty. But its still way better than living in a big city i think. I love the country. The small town feeling everyone knows everyone, really. They do.  Read More

Beware - 9/25/2019
Decent place, lived here for a while. Homeless are everywhere, drug addicts under the bridges, don't go to the river or the trail due to harassment from homeless. Outside of town is lovely. Stay at red lion or best place is casino. All other hotels accept vouchers and they don't regulate the druggies that stay there. Just had another raid at one of them so it will be ok for about a Read More

Susanville Living - 5/25/2018
Susanville has most of the raptors that you see in the US. I see deer in the city streets daily. I've seen beaver, coyote, wolf, bear, martins, racoon, fox, skunk, cougar, and evidence of a porcupine. We have nearby herds of antelope. We've got rabbits, badgers, wild cat, squirrels, and I once saw a wolverine. This place is great for stream and lake fishing. The weather varies a lot with the seasons, but is really nice a lot of the time. If you like the outdoors, or just sharing your space with a higher variety of creatures, then Susanville is the place for Read More

Considering Employment in Susanville, CA & quick r - 6/28/2010
Recent job opportunity at the local hospital(BLMC) has prompted me to research many aspects of life in the Susanville area. Have a long time friend who works at BLMC and it is a very small, quaint, clean, new(2003) facility. Small enough that everyone knows all other employees. BLMC gets about 2 runs of inmates per day as patients-they are very well behaved, remainder of patients is a mix of Military Veterans and locals. The population at 18-20,000 is a bit misleading, about 11,000 of them live at the 2 prisons at outskirts of town and provide continuous economic support and business to the hospital and surrounding community. The crime rate there, I understand is near zero, and pace of life is slow and relaxed. They do have a notable symphony program locally, which adds refinement to the small town atmosphere, similar to where I grew up, south of Yosemite Nat'l Park near Bass Lake(fond memories). Summer temps in 90's, winter to mid 20's, 2-3 ft of snow, 15 in rain/yr, 250+ days of Read More

Great Climate - 10/27/2009
The summers are pleasant with highs rarely above 95 degrees with dry heat. There is enough snow in the winter to make the area pretty, but not too much that you get tired of it. The area is a true 4 seasons location with beautiful fall colors everywhere and temperatures in the 60s during the Read More

Overview - 9/28/2009
Susanville is a city with a economy based on the state prison system and other government jobs. There are many
recreational outdoor activities available in the region. Crime does not seem to be a major problem in most parts of
the city. People are generally very friendly and care about the community. I have lived in Susanville for the past
20 years and have not been victimized by any criminal activity. The summers tend to be very hot with short fall and
spring seasons. Winters are not that severe when compared to most mountainous regions. The economy of the region
is not in good condition at this time because of increased state taxes and poor tax climate for Read More

This in my opinion is one of the worst places to raise children. There is nothing for teenagers to do here. There are so many drugs and std's in this small town. There are parties where several boys who drug the girls and rape them and crooked cops and grown men at the courthouse who trade there sevices for sexual favors with single mothers when they themselves are married!!!There is spray paint everywhere, north side, south side and LCC Lassen County Craziest. This town is pathetic. It's a horrid Read More

Population Misleading and quality of life - 12/6/2008
The population listed is somewhat inaccurate, as it includes 11,000 inmates from the two state prisons on edge of town. As for quality of life in Susanville, I live here and enjoy it,though the pace of life is Read More

Northern California small town - 12/3/2008
Susanville is a small western town with more cattle than people. It has miles of hiking trails, mountains, and lakes. The elevation is 4500 feet, with very hot, dry summers, and cool winters with a few inches of snow each year to ocassionally several feet of snow. If you like the outdoors, don't need a big mall to visit often, this is the place. There is a small 25-bed hospital. Reno is the closet city at 85 miles away. The biggest income producer in Susanville is the 2 high-security state Read More

Great Place to Raise a Family! - 3/31/2008
Susanville is one of the last undiscovered areas of California. We are situated at the junction of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the Great Basin desert. Nearby you will find fishing, hiking, camping and skiing. For the outdoor lover there is no better place to live. I've been a resident for 20 years, and work in real estate where I can help others discover this wonderful Read More
