Fowler, CO is a small rural town located in Otero County in Southern Colorado. Despite its remote location, it boasts a quaint downtown area with plenty of shops and restaurants for visitors to explore. It is also known for its close proximity to several outdoor recreational activities such as camping, fishing, hiking and biking. The town has also gained notoriety as being the birthplace of famous architect John Gaw Meem, who designed many classic Pueblo-style buildings throughout the region. Visitors to Fowler can expect to find a laid-back atmosphere perfect for relaxing and taking in the natural beauty of the area.
Those who have taken the time to visit Fowler won't be disappointed by what they find there. Many rave about its welcoming locals and the excellent shopping opportunities available downtown. Visitors will also enjoy taking part in the unique events that take place throughout the year, from a Fourth of July parade to an antique car show or holiday festivities. 1950's Small Town Living - 10/6/2020
I visited Fowler for 3 days during Sept 2020 due to a vehicle problem. While limited by the Covid epidemic, I walked around town quite a lot & distance-chatted with people. The town seemed to be a pretty intact small ag-based town with 50's values & very friendly. People wave at strangers & ask if you need help. Houses & cars were generally maintained OK. The ag economy work is supplemented by a couple of prisons nearby. Mostly White, maybe 10% Hispanic, saw only 2 people who were Black & 0 Asians, so don't know how the friendliness factor might be different if you are a POC. Lots of Trump 2020 signs/flags & no Biden signs. Older men hang out on sidewalk benches in front of stores to be sociable. Less than 5% wear masks in public. Lots of Christian/Catholic churches.
