culture and activities - 10/6/2010
Wow! Have been here a month, came here from Texas and can not believe how friendly the people are. It is breathtakingly beautiful here! So much to do and see. Everyone here seems to be health aware and are always riding bikes or jogging or walking.
I have not had to find a job yet so may speak on that at a later date.
So far I give it a big thumbs up!  Read More

still miss it - 4/1/2010
I lived in Manitou Springs area for 5 years and after relocating for work (lay off), I still miss living there. The entire little town can feel a bit touristy in the summer, but I could deal with it since everyone was so nice and friendly. The shop owners along the main street took such pride in their shops and made sure you were greeted with a smile and some small talk. The weather was the best of anywhere I have ever lived (PA, VA, ID, MD, WI). I remember starting my days telling my young son, "It's another beautiful day in Colorado."

Easy access to Colorado Springs lets you live in a small funky Western art town, but still enjoy (?) the mexaplex movie theaters, malls, and culture of a bigger city. Even Denver isn't that far away for the major sports and concerts. I often got in the car and found a new hiking trail within minutes of leaving my house. Everyone is always outside, but it never feels crowded. Again, the nicest, most upbeat, friendly people I've met seem Read More

Your review on Manitou is by and large correct. The issue with employment is should we say distorted in the respect this place should be billed on par with places like Estes Park. The point is employment is very seasonal, there is no industry, and mostly it's artsy, jewelry genre. Glass blowers etc. Many are very credible with prices to go with, but it's your basic little mountain town that gains most of it's revenue via tourism. It has a higher than avg. quality school district, a VFD and a PD that rivals Mayberry. As for activities, the Pike's Peak Marathon, auto hill climb, the best mountain biking at the door step, trails, and of corse scenery. I am a retired soldier and have lived around the worl, ad I can tell you weather here is the best. If the humidity gets up to 25% we're cryin' When it snows it's gone in 2 or 3 days, if you want snow drive west for an hour and you'll have more than you need. All in all a great area, a little depressed at times but Read More
