Love Hart - 8/20/2022
I love Hartford. Any naysayer is not appreciating the very real and new energy that is revitalizing the city. In conjunction with a wonderful location, relatively mild climate and beautiful country, the Hartford, West Hartford, Bloomfield areas have the potential to recover from the dependent nature on insurance and banking and instead become a bit of an ecotourism area not far from the big apple. The economy is becoming diversified as well as attracting thousands of hopefuls each year to the HIGHLY elite Hartt School within the beautiful University of Hartford. The arts scene, business diversity and inclusion in this area is complimented by a very liberal religious community that is welcoming of all walks of life. Hartford is wonderful. Read More

Hartford - 100 Nuts and a Squirrel - 2/6/2021
I lived in CT for about 7 years, and this place is depressing, lonely, and boring. My only entertainment in Hartford, were the Library branches for books and movies. The neighborhoods outside of Downtown, CT are disgusting and drug infested. Nobody is around at nights, and you'll find out why. The police are nowhere to be seen, and corrupt, along with the Fire Department (west end fire department on Sisson Ave), and AMR/EMT. The worst place I lived in, was 20 May Street, of Avalon Apartments. It was also the beginning of a system that has spread beyond Hartford; a system of maintenance/management workers working together with your neighbors and outside sources (police), to make your live-in situation as uncomfortable as possible. This system exist in Clemens place and the Senior Living Community on Sisson Ave. Also, don't be surprised by the age and type of people involved, and what jobs they're doing; taxi, Sanitation, Mailman, it doesn't matter. Today, Downtown Hartford is no longer Read More

Under rated and much maligned. - 1/5/2021
Hartford has for many years been criticized and dumped on by people moving to the 'sunbelt'. To be sure parts of the city are bad- but the city itself has only 125,000 people out of a metro region of 1.2 million. Hartford country has some of the most pleasant areas to live in the country.Connecticut outside of Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport and Waterbury is in the top ten of states with the lowest crime rates. Housing prices outside of swanky Fairfield county are near the national average- or lower. Schools are above average- health care and access to to health care rate second highest in the nation. There are great museums, restaurant's and ample recreational options. The golden Connecticut beaches from the center of the state are less then an hour away. The climate has changed much in 30 years- winters are far milder with less snow and cold. Summers are hotter however. Springs begin earlier and autumns are milder- will into late November. The state will be far safer from Read More

A Very Nice Small City and an Excellent County - 7/30/2018
I grew up in West Hartford....and the City of Hartford and Hartford County is a lovely place to live. Easy access to everything you will ever need. The City is completely under-rated and a bargain to live in when you consider places like Tennessee and yes, Florida. It's an easy place to live. Everything is walkable or a very quick drive. In 45 minutes you can be at the beach or the mountains, depending upon your interest.

We retired to Florida from Hartford. After a year, we sold our house in FL and are moving back to Hartford. Florida is excessively hot, humid, full of strip malls and rude/very aggressive drivers. The price of real estate if FL has skyrocketed and it is simply not worth it. The City of Hartford is very easy to work in and there has been a ton of housing construction over the past 5 years. The Mark Twain House is amazing, along with the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. The Wadsworth Atheneum (the oldest public art museum in the country) is wonderful, Read More

Urban Blight With Few Amenities - 3/14/2017
I moved to Hartford after living in Chicago, and prior to moving on to Boston.

Hartford's biggest selling point is that it is 2 hours away from all of the places that you'd rather be. Hartford has all of the problems of major cities, but it has few advantages. The crime rate is high, the art scene is thin, music is dismal. and restaurants are blah.  Read More

Living Downtown - 1/6/2011
We recently moved here and chose to live downtown. It's a recovering downtown. We're enjoying access to many theaters, museums, parks, great restaurants and other resources. Hartford downtown has the chicken-n-egg problem of needing more residents to support downtown businesses and more downtown businesses that would attract more residents. We lack grocery stores and affordable retail stores. Hartford is trying and people seem to be responding.  Read More
