Middletown, CT is one of the few cities in Connecticut worth living in. With a low crime rate, relatively low cost of living and plenty of housing options, there is really no other town like it, within a 10-mile radius (10 miles is a lot in CT). There is no shortage of rentals, as there are at least 20 apartment complexes of varying degrees of quality. And two grocery stores in town. The downtown has plenty of restaurants, parking and walkability. It is also located in the center of the state, with easy access to I-91, I-691 and CT-9. The beach is only 50 minutes away. This is a lovely town, with the added excitment of college minds and youthful spirits. The Sad part is the lack of transportation. There is no train (rail service) that stops in the town so travel to New York City is very difficult.(You must travel to New Haven via bus if you can find it). Lived in connecticut all our lives and have done everything. It looks like about time to move on with the dramatic rise in taxes, violent crime in the state and nature being overrun with housing and development, this is becoming no place to live. Weather is not conducive to any outdoor activities, there are limited parks and family outdoor activities, (more casino emphasis) and there are nothing but high priced malls to shop in. Although Wesleyan University is right up the hill, Middletown is not a college town. The town-gown relations are less than a brotherly bond, partly because Middletown does not have much to offer a younger crowd.
